NFL head coach collapses on field, taken to hospital
« on: November 03, 2013, 07:21:42 PM »
Right before halftime of Sunday night's Texans-Colts game began Gary Kubiak collapsed on the field and was tended to by medical professionals.

Kubiak was taken off the field on a stretcher by trainers.

Michelle Tafoya of NBC -- who was on the field -- reported that Kubiak appeared to be in "extraordinary pain" and didn't open his eyes that she could see. He was talking, though, per Tafoya.

Wade Phillips, NBC reports, is taking over as the head coach of the Texans for the remainder of the game.

Phillips told Tafoya that Kubiak being taken to the hospital was "purely precautionary" and that "his heart rate was fine and that his pulse was fine."

NFL coaches are under stress more than any other coaches in Pro sports....there was a documentary on NFL network this summer about what these coaches have to go thru and their preparation.....it's no joke....no wonder some of the former coaches don't wanna go back to coaching and feel comfortable in TV studios instead.....

He shouldn't have been stressing. They are pounding the Colts on both sides of the ball.

Why would they be under any stress?  They aren't playing or doing anything.  Why do they always yell and look so angry?  Besides, its the players fault if they lose.  Plus, they make millions so why would they be concerned?

Your average police officer is under a lot more stress.

a commercial pilot is under a lot of stress as well, as is many other professions but a NFL coach is paid millions and expect to deliver on sundays and are working around the clock to keep everything in check and they have 16 weeks to deliver the goods or else......tampa bay, minnessota and many mediocre teams this season have coaches spending sleepless nights worrying...I doubt they can even screw their wives well..... ;D.......

Coaches have some insane schedules, but...

They're making 1 or 2 million a year.  $7 if you're one of the best.  If head coaches get fire, most end up being asst coaches...
Avg salary of NFL assistant coach is $350000 to $375000

So no matter how stressful shit is... you're making $1000 to $6000 a DAY to put up with that kinda pressure.  I know college kids that work touch cashier jobs & classes that are probably under just as much stress... and they're broke as shit.

So while it's a highly competitive job, it's just playing a game.  It's personnel & matchups and math & motivation and more... but like TA said, a cop worrying about getting shot for $32,000 a year is sure under more stress than a coach making 30 times that much $$.

Most of these coaches are sleep deprived, severely dehydrated, and stressed out for 9 months a year. I'm surprised that more don't have health problems in-season.

Yes, because Coaches do not have access to water as part of the job requirement.  ::)

I bet I could be an NFL coach just as easily as anyone else could.

???

I don't have any supervisors.

Furthermore, another poster in this very thread said the same about NFL jokes (I mean "coaches") "hit the numbers or you are gone".

A robot would be a better "Coach".  A robot could statistically analyze all information in an instant and then tell the players exactly what they need to do based on data since the start of the NFL.

If I was a team owner, I would have all of this automated and eliminate the coaching position altogether.  Aggregate statistics will always trump emotional nonsense every single time.

You would have the same or better outcome as a regular coach for sure.
