Can anyone recall any time in BBing history when a competitor may have "thrown" a show, coming in sub-par shape on purpose, or hitting poses poorly intentionally to let another guy win?

A bodybuilder only has to come in an (obviously) off condition to place below his potential.

Lee Priest from 2003 Olympia (with the mullet hairdo) comes to mind.....that's not to say he delibrately tried to "throw" the show, but it was obvious he hadn't made that much of an effort to be at his best.

Yup, every time someone competes and is off, he's doing that.

It depends on what you mean by "throwing"

There is often going to be a stage where the realisation that its not going to possible to be in perfect shape at the contest.

I would assume when that realisation comes in that things slightly slacken off.  I wouldn't say it was throwing though but definitely conscious decision to not try 110% to win.  With the amount of money they spend on getting ready you can see why this type of efficient thinking might be required.
