Poll: 78% of Uninsured Not Interested in ObamaCare
« on: November 08, 2013, 12:52:02 PM »
A new Gallup poll brings more terrible news for President Obama and his signature health plan, showing that only 22% of uninsured Americans intend to buy insurance through the ObamaCare exchanges.

One of the major selling points for using ObamaCare to disrupt our health care system (that polls showed up to 80% of Americans were satisfied with) was to insure the uninsured. But according to this poll, only a very small minority of that small minority is even interested in obtaining insurance.

Even more troubling is the realization that a month ago, that number was double; a full 44% of the uninsured said they would purchase insurance though the exchanges.

Over the course of a month, however, the reality of ObamaCare scared off half of that 44%. The high cost of premiums, the high deductibles customers have to pay regardless of any tax subsidy, and the unforgivable bungling of the rollout only discouraged those who we blew up a perfectly good health care system to help.

The worse news is that you can bet that the 22% who do intend to sign up are made up of the oldest and sickest among the uninsured. Meanwhile, the 78% who are uninterested in being insured are likely the youngest and healthiest.

This means a sicker and older pool of enrollees, which means higher premiums for a couple hundred million Americans who were perfectly satisfied with what they had--that is, before President Obama, Democrats, and the media decided what was best for us.

As of now, the poll shows only 18% of the uninsured have even tried to visit a marketplace website.

When you look at the nearly 4 million Americans who have already had their insurance cancelled, the low enrollment numbers we have seen so far, and combine that with the website problems, sticker shock, and overall disgust, it is not out inconceivable to speculate that by this time next year, ObamaCare will have caused the number of uninsured in America to increase.

What other responsible choices does this open the door for the government to fine you for?

If people opt out, or simply can't afford it, they'll be fined.  Added to that, it will kill jobs in the country.  It's already happening.  Companies will avoid increasing jobs if it puts them over the threshold to have to provide health insurance, or will reduce full time positions to get under it.

The people receiving cancelation notices for their current plans are seeing their premiums increase dramatically to regain health insurance under the affordable care act.  A moniker given to this farce, which would almost cause one to believe they were being facetious with such a designation.  Obama Care shows precisely how much Obama really cares.  Not at all.

I was(and still am) interested in the single payer option. It makes the most economic sense. But Obama caters to the health insurance industry instead of focusing on healthcare.

Isn't SPH just another phrase for "socialized medicine"? I personally don't feel like paying for the liver transplant for someone who drank like a fish or the lung transplant for someone who smoked three packs of cigarettes for years on end. If I had some sort of guarantee that everyone else washed their hands frequently, drank plenty of water and exercised several times a week, then maybe. But that won't happen. I do all of those things and harsly ever get sick.

I live in MA and Romney tried this nonsense a few years back. He didn't force my hand to buy insurance then, and Obama won't do it now.

True but that fine is peanuts compared to the cost when a hospital is forced to threat an uninsured person. This is the main reason the system is so expensive now.

But that was the difference between Romney's plan, you really did have a choice to opt out, Obama is making this a mandate.

so your answer is to make it even more expensive?

The truth of the matter is that the ppl who are signing up are going to be mostly those older and sicker individuals. You know the ones the younger individuals were going to help support by paying premiums?(except they probably got subsidies, so it would really be the tax payers supporting them, supporting the sick and old).

Im not quite sure you or anyone who is in favor of this bill knows how insurance works. If you did you would understand and wouldnt be suprised why insurance costs are increasing and it has nothing to do with those uninsured individuals

Everyone out there should refuse to pay the fines and stick their middle fingers up at the IRS and Obama care in unison.

About 44 million people in this country have no health insurance, and another 38 million have inadequate health insurance. This means that nearly one-third of Americans face each day without the security of knowing that, if and when they need it, medical care is available to them and their families.

Having no health insurance also often means that people will postpone necessary care and forego preventive care - such as childhood immunizations and routine check-ups-completely. Because the uninsured usually have no regular doctor and limited access to prescription medications, they are more likely to be hospitalized for health conditions that could have been avoided.

Delaying care for fear of medical bills is a downward spiral that leads to ultimately higher health care costs for all of us. More than one third of uninsured adults reported they have problems paying their bills, which helps explain why many of the uninsured don't seek out the care they need until the last minute. But when an uninsured person is in crisis and cannot pay, that burden falls upon the insured population, the hospitals, the doctors and the government. And these billions of dollars of "uncompensated care" drive up health insurance premiums for everyone.

Inadequate according to who? Libtard and the government? Just because an insurance policy, for a single man or woman who can't have children, doesn't have maternity care, nor pediatric vision care doesn't make the policy "inadequate". If they want' to keep it, they should keep it. Just like the worst president ever claimed.

44 million? Why does the figure keep changing? First it was 30-35 million. Then over 50 million. Now 44 million and they want to add to that number with them the people that don't have the type of insurance that libtards ARBITRARILY want to force on them. Pathetic.

That number should be a lot lower if libtards stop counting illegal immigrants, people who were temporarily uninsured because they were unemployed at some point during the year and the young people who don't want insurance because they don't need it.
