Quote
LOS ANGELES (AP) It looked like a typical Sunday morning at any mega-church. Hundreds packed in for more than an hour of rousing music, an inspirational sermon, a reading and some quiet reflection. The only thing missing was God.

Dozens of gatherings dubbed "atheist mega-churches" by supporters and detractors are springing up around the U.S. after finding success in Great Britain earlier this year. The movement fueled by social media and spearheaded by two prominent British comedians is no joke.

On Sunday, the inaugural Sunday Assembly in Los Angeles attracted more than 400 attendees, all bound by their belief in non-belief. Similar gatherings in San Diego, Nashville, New York and other U.S. cities have drawn hundreds of atheists seeking the camaraderie of a congregation without religion or ritual.

The founders, British duo Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, are currently on a tongue-in-cheek "40 Dates, 40 Nights" tour around the U.S. and Australia to drum up donations and help launch dozens of Sunday Assemblies. They hope to raise more than $800,000 that will help atheists launch their pop-up congregations around the world.

The atheist bible is a collection of works: The God Delusion, Atlas Shrugged, A Brief History of Time and the collected writings of David Hume

Atheist mega-preachers are Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins and Dan Dennett (note for the late Christopher Hitchens as well).  Head of the atheist deacons is Matt Dillahunty.

Atheist hymnals?  Couldn't say, but I figure John Lennon's "Imagine" would be sung often.

Hard atheists spend more time discussing God and religion than theists do LOL....figures they'd have a "church" so they can "avoid religion".

^lol

I always called secularism a godless religion fuelled by atheism. It has laws, rules, ethics, guidelines, etc... even if it was stolen from religions or thought up on the go from human desires, heck there are even rituals. People just don't want to admit it.

Look at Quebec, they are targeting Muslims but inadvertently attacking jews, christians, hindus and sikhs too to make everyone 'equal' uuh equal in atheism?... ya no thanks.

Secularism is the backdrop religion of the anti-christ

Truth.  Spending all that time discussing something they don't believe in.

It depends on what the meaning of "is" is.

There is no atheist "Bible".  An atheist does not believe in G-d, but that is the end of the definition.  Many atheists would not agree with the books or the authors you cite.   And most atheists don't talk about G-d at all, except for the loud bunch you mention who have made it their mission to actively and aggressively attack religion and the religious.

Well for the first time in history they won't be killed or imprisioned.  There is a lot of catching up to do.

This is rather silly, but hey... whatever floats people's boats is fine with me as long as they leave me alone and don't try to shove their beliefs down my throat.

Just all in good fun and lame attempts at humor....no harm intended!
