I came across this one looking for the Ross firing.  Nothing extra special, just one of many, one could choose of his work from the 80's.  I know the game has changed, but if anything is close to this, I would like to know who it is.

"And when you wake up in the morning, you do yourself a favor, you pattern your life after Ric flair, and you'll be something."

I tried for 20 years.  I'm not 100% sure I agree with him, but it sure was fun.

I always wanted to see somebody lose on a re-pin, but didn't know it ever happened.

What is a brushhog?

Brush hog is basically a big jacked up riding lawnmower on steroids used to clear pastures.

A lot of the older fans at that time were from The Depression era and David was a master at playing to the crowd of that time, in the ring or on the mic. He was basically trying to put himself over to the hardworking, blue collar/farm people with that reference.

Bush-hog is what we called them.  Attached to a tractor and you towed it behind to clear bushes, etc...

I haven't got time to link them now, but Austin and Foley cut some memorable promos in the old ECW. Brian Pillman enjoyed similar success. That was a time during which "worked shoots" were popular. There were lots of backstage truths laced within the more obviously scripted material. I honestly believe that's part of what got ECW so over.

Maybe he is using it as a vignette before coming to a new territory?

Flair is the only wrestler whose promos  I could watch one after the other for a 1/2 hour straight.

IMO, Flair is one of the greatest public speakers of all time in any genre.

I agree.  And nothing scripted for him in those days.  Amazing.

Flair's old NWA / WCW promos were the best! JJ Dillon was also brilliant - especially in the Four Horsemen Days.

IMO, Arn was underrated on the stick (microphone, for you pricks with dirty minds).

I love the botches he'd inevitably make.
I presume you recall the one about Flair that got him tons of heat from WCW management?

Luger was another botch artist on the mic.

Yeah I looked up some old clips after listening to Bruce Prichards interview with Steve Austin and I just wasn't feeling it.

Interesting idea emulating a televangelist I suppose but it was more annoying looking back on it than anything.

Those are my sentiments, too; although I try to remind myself that the original Brother Love character was created around 1990-ish and was not far off the mark from other characters born at that time.

Absolutely.

You talk about a heel manager who could draw some HEAT!

An Arab manager in Texas during the 1980's who blew fireballs on the other wrestlers!! Talk about a gimmick that was OVER!

I heard Jimmy Wehba(Akbar) basically had to sneak in and out of his home/venues constantly, drove around in his car with super dark tinted windows and he was so low key that his neighbors didn't even know who he was for YEARS.

If you were a kid back in the 80s Skandar Akbar was about the closest thing to The BoogieMan in wrestling.
