Question about NPC divisions
« on: December 03, 2013, 02:33:12 PM »
I want to make sure I've got this straight. So women's physique is basically the new female bodybuilding just with less drugs? And they are supposed to be more muscular than figure and fitness girls, right? And men's physique is basically the equivalent of women's bikini, meaning they are the least muscular and don't really pose. Is there also a new division called classic bodybuilding for men? If so, this would be like the equivalent of women's physique, correct?

Depends on where you are in the world.

In the USA, there is the NPC and the IFBB.  For the NPC, which is the amateur organization to the IFBB, you do not have classic bodybuilding.  For the men, there is Men's Physique and Men's Bodybuilding. For the Women, there is Bikini, Figure, Fitness, Women's Physique, and Women's Bodybuilding.

For Men's Physique - here are the rules

Judging Criteria:

•Muscularity and Body Condition - Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity should be marked down.

•Stage Presence and Personality -  Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts (shorts must be just above the knee in length and can be one inch below the belly button, no spandex and no logos are permitted on the board shorts however a manufacturer’s logo such as Nike symbol or Billabongs are acceptable.) Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. No lewd acts allowed for example the moon pose. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can successfully convey his personality to the audience.

For Women's Physique - here are the rules

Judging Criteria:

Symmetry, shape, proportion, muscle tone, poise and beauty flow. Physique assessment and comparison will take place during prejudging

Women’s Physique Division has been created to give a platform for women who enjoy weight training, competing, contest preparation. Competitors should display a toned, athletic physique showcasing femininity, muscle tone, beauty/flow of physique.

The following are examples of common terms used in the bodybuilding industry. These words can be helpful to assess what should not be descriptive to the physiques being judged in women’s physique:

Ripped, shredded, peeled, striated, dry, diced, hard, vascular, grainy, massive, thick, dense, etc.

While all types of physiques will be considered when it comes to height, weight, structure, etc. Excessive muscularity should be scored down accordingly. Women’s physique competitors should have the overall aesthetics and look that is found in figure with a little more overall muscularity.

"Successfully convey his personality to the audience?"  What does that even mean?

Well - getting on stage, walking there with a smile, grace and good physique.  Or getting on stage, looking like a deer in a headlight, not smiling, stiff movements and forgetting how to do the simple three basic poses for men's physique.

I can tell you this criteria ISNT followed at the State levels at ALL...Every Womans Physique competitor I judged last year these girls were freaks...the National Level these woman would have given ANY 80s- early90s Ms. Olympia competitor a hard time...the whole "criteria" is a joke and never followed...
