"What [Obama] said was true," Reid told the station. "The problem is, we did not put the bill into effect that way . . . There have been three changes in anyone's policy since then. It's not the same policy."Reid has repeatedly insisted Obama's promise was not broken, and "Special Report" host Bret Baier wondered whether there was a coordinated effort by Democrats to muddy the water.
"I can't believe it's a coordinated campaign. It's too insane," conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer said.
"I think it's Harry Reid trying on a tin hat. I would just say, Harry give it up. You can try it all you want that the sun rises in the West. It's not going to work."
Daily Beast columnist Kirsten Powers supported Obamacare, but has criticized Obama's pledge after her own policy was dropped.
"I think they have probably decided there's nothing they can do so they're just going to lean into it," Powers said. "They don't have a positive argument to make so they're just going to keep insisting that things aren't quite as bad as people think they are. … I can't believe Harry Reid believes what he just said."
Republican pundit Karl Rove is famous for pulling out whiteboards to make his points on Fox News. Reid's comments had Rove going to a second whiteboard Thursday night for "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."
Noting that Reid's name is usually followed in news outlets by the identification "D-Nevada," Rove suggested a few alternatives: D-Dumb, D-Who Does He Think We Are? D-Who You Gonna Believe – Me or the Cancellation Letter?
