i've been doing something like this and it doesnt do more than that dosage for 10 weeks
after that plateau 
everybody is different
assuming all persons are 6ft tall, and 7% bodyfat and take in the same cal/protein...
person A needs 1g/wk to maintain 240lbs.
person B needs 500mg/wk to maintain 240lbs.
person C needs 2g/wk to maintain 240lbs
....
if you're adding 500mg/wk, you'll get to a point where your bodyweight will top out (without getting fat) at that dosage because that's all the muscle your body can support on that amount of androgens/hormones (without getting fat.. you can always increase bodyweight, but it won't always be lean).
it may take 3 months, or it may take 6 months.. everybody's different.

look at all the pros who retire/go-off... why would you think their body's would maintain 40lbs+ of musclemass OVER what their natural LBM would be otherwise?
you think a guy 60+lbs of LBM over his "natural bodyweight" who's using 5g/wk is gonna only lose 25% of his LBM when he goes down to "hrt" doses? (even of "HRT" for them means 500mg/wk) HELL NO!
