What ever happened to the good old serial killer?
« on: December 12, 2013, 07:39:07 AM »
In the 70's and 80's serial killers were all the rage.  People made famous by killing many others, but not in one big mass shooting but one at a time over years until finally being caught.  I've noticed though in the 2000's that we haven't had any.  Lots of mass murders, but no Ted Bundys or John Wayne Gacies anymore.  They used to even give them awesome nicknames.  Boston Strangler, Zodiac Killer, BTK, Son of Sam and my favorite, The Cleveland Torso Murderer.  You would think with the "Look at me" generation that there'd be more of these type of guys but there isn't.

Random thought: I wonder if there has been serial killer trading cards? I could see that selling well.

Some will always get through the net, but detection techniques are much better now with CCTV and DNA a lot of these sick bastards get caught before they can get on a roll.

They got no patience. Old fashioned serial killer would bide his time and do a few a year. Nowadays the twitter and facebook generation want it all now. Can't stagger their killing, they have to take everybody out in one afternoon. They want it all and they expect it now. Generation nothingness.

Ted Bundy must be turning in his grave.

there are plenty of unsolved murders every week.
in all fairness I doubt cops can solve something decently executed.

Always been fascinated by serial killers and what makes the sick fucks tick. DNA and crime scene forensics has helped to catch them before they become too prolific but there are still hundreds at large today.

.

Trade ya a Gein and a Dahmer for a Warnos.  I'm also looking for the rare alternate Berkowitz rookie card, the one where he wrote "Fuck Face" on the butt of his .44.

As to the original question, there are still a lot, but many seem to lack the panache of the old timers.

Gein was't really a serial killer, not sure he belongs.

This. We need a fucking good train robbery - that's a proper old-school crime, minimal casualties/low risk/high return.
