Hey,
My friend, hes really really big and lean for 18. He has protine shakes with raw egg whites (or whole eggs im not sure) in them. He tells me that raw eggs are a better source of protine and that I should try it.

Would that be OK? My mom told me I would get Salmonella from that?

Whatcha think PrincessL, Jaguar, anyone else?

Lotta times i drink raw eggs just bc i hate the time and cleanup of cooking them...i've NEVER gotten sick from it..

Ya I used to drink a LOT of raw eggs but there are potential health issues, ala salmonella. When I was about 26 and doing this courier work I would pull into the gas station, buy a tank of gas, a dozen eggs, and grab a big soda cup (the biggest they had). Then I would put the nozzle in, crack all 12 eggs into the big cup and pound them before the tank was full. Ehehe. Probably 3 times a week like this.

I'd be cautious of eating raw eggs even though the salmonella risk isn't really all that high.

To be safer, get eggs that are pasteurized which eliminates the salmonella risk. You can even find 'in the shell' pasteurized eggs too.

nowadays they make this wonderful stuff called protein powder that has virtually the same effect on your body and is not disgusting and does not have the potential to end your life.

Well you gotta remember some people can't afford to pound 3-4 protein shakes a day. Geez, I spend $150 this month on Muscle Milk and I get them for $25 bucks a can Lets see, dozen eggs, $1.50. Eggs are a cheaper source of protein. Theres nothing wrong with taking it easy and having a quick meal with no clean up.

I wouldn't worry about any health risks eating raw eggs. Quick, easy, good protein.

What I would fear is the toxic aroma that will come out your arse. That s**t will make people gag.

by the way, a protein shake may taste better, but it is in no way as effective a source of protein as an egg or an egg white. The digestion and utilization of a plain ol' egg destroys that of even the best protein shake.

Hey Benfun7, i've been eating raw eggs during training periods (still do) since the late 70's early 80's.W/pasteurization theres not much chance of getting salmonella nowadays.If you have any doubts about that however you could always just hard boil the egg(s) for a minute or two before popping them in the blender for your shake.

Your body is able to resist salmonella. You'll maybe become sick once or twice, but after that it won't hurt you, only if you're very weak by sickness or something else (a lot of stress).

There's only a very small group of people who can't stand salmonella, and need to go immediately to IC. But that's an exception, your body can build up resistants to salmonella. Don't let healthdepartments make you crazy with all kind of threats.

The greatest benefit to consuming raw eggs in my opinion, is that you might impress a few people (who incidently are too easily impressed). It also looks good in the movies. One of my ex-boyfriends will only eat omelets made only from the egg whites, while another used to regularly down 6 raw whole eggs, but he would at least nuke them for a few seconds to cut the risk of salmonella.

Me personally... you'd never catch me downing a raw egg (unless my life depended on it). They smell too much like umm... sailors if you ask me. Read between the lines and use your imagination.

It's not just about salmonella and other infections. Raw, non pasteurized eggs contain some bacteria that actually severely limit the protein absorption.
