I think he doesn't like the fact that I don't like cops. That's all I can come up with.

We actually agree on a lot of things, but he seems to take issue with the fact that I don't think cops are "special".

I have cop friends... Good guys. Unfortunately, having those friends also means that I have seen the bad cop element.

I also take issue with the fact that cops are so quick to take away civil liberties. That's probably my biggest issue. I don't appreciate the way most cops are so nonchalant about taking people's freedoms. Especially since I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in a country that prides itself on the "perception" of allowing those freedoms over all else.

To find a cop that appreciates what their job allows and uses it with discretion is very difficult to find it seems.

This whole thread you have done nothing but ring the "look at me my job is dangerous "bell.  The list isn't flawed, policing just isn't as dangerous as you want it to be.  Police personnel often have massive insecurities, one of them is to be seen in some heroic light, if they can convince everyone else how dangerous their job is, the greater the sense of psychological satisfaction is.  The fact is, most people don't want the distinction that their job is dangerous, people don't go down huge mines thinking how great it is that their job carries with it a higher than average mortality rate.  The Police and Military seems to be the type of professions were those drawn to it NEED to believe the job is dangerous to satisfy certain EGO deficiencies they live with.

I have to chime in on this thread....4 close family members (1 my brother) have been in the major wars (world 2, Gulf War, and Afghan) i will agree with you that  SOME soldiers dont have dangerous jobs as they are not in direct line of fire. However another term comes to mind here with the biggest difference between soldiers and Kanye. hey bro I used to feel the same way abt cops and what you say is accurate regarding their manipulation of people who don't know better into surrendering their constitutional rights and freedoms.

but then I realised, it's not the cops fault, it's the persons fault for not educating themselves on these rights and freedoms they have. the part I take exception to is when a cop resides he's not dealing with a fucking idiot and then goes into automatic dick mode simply be used your not surrendering your rights and freedoms as he has grown accustom to expect.

American soldiers aren't brave nor do they have much Balls. They are pretty fucking stupid though, especially considering how easily they will be shipped off to fight in illegal wars.  When you'r government is in charge of the most powerful military in the history of mankind, the soldiers who sign up for it can do so with confidence.  The people who are brave are the ones who go up against such overwhelming force with little resources.

For pilots it’s 70 kills per 100,000. Alaskan bush pilots, included in the commercial pilot grouping, have an astounding one-in-eight chance of death over the course of a 30-year career.

Pure statistics never tell the whole story. Thousands of soldiers have died in the past 12 years in Afghanistan+ Iraq, with tens of thousands more being seriously injured i.e.-amputee,wheelchair, burns, and many more effected with PTSD.  This seems to be a much more dangerous job than logging or farming. A one in eight chance of dying is crazy though.
