Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson named highest grossing actor of 2013
Success of Fast & Furious 6 and GI Joe: Retaliation places Johnson at top of annual worldwide box office earnings list

Dwayne Johnson has been named the top grossing actor in the world by Forbes magazine, thanks to the success of drag racing sequel Fast & Furious 6 and fantasy romp GI Joe: Retaliation.

The wrestler turned actor, also known by his one-time ring name The Rock, emerged ahead of Iron Man 3's Robert Downey Jr and Fast & Furious co-stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker on the list. His four films of 2013 produced a staggering $1.3bn in total.

Forbes produced its rundown by tallying the worldwide box office hauls of all movies released during the past calendar year. Downey Jr came in second with $1.2bn courtesy of his only film of 2013, Iron Man 3. Steve Carell was named third on the list with $964m from the hugely successful animated sequel Despicable Me 2 and indie also-rans The Way Way Back and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

Fast & Furious 6 stars Diesel and Walker came in fourth and sixth, with $887m and $789m respectively. Diesel surpassed his late co-star because he also starred in sci-fi sequel Riddick in 2013.

The top-grossing female star, according to Forbes, was Sandra Bullock, in fifth place overall. Hit films Gravity and The Heat helped her secure a total box office haul of $862m.

Exactly..

From what I gathered after reading that piece, the movies grossed the $1.3 Billion combined, but what he actually earned individually is what will be telling of his true wealth.

Forbes is filled with Retards. Did anyone catch John Stewart last night, where they interviewed a Forbes writer that was talking about eliminating welfare (particularly the SNAP program) and said we should instead have millions of Americans starving on a daily basis and allow for private charity to "fix" the problem?

Fucking idiots..

My problem with him wasn't so much his point of view, but more so his sheer inability to properly convey his point without sounding like a complete moron and stumbling over his own ideas when phrased differently by the interviewer. Hence why I state that Forbes is filled with a bunch of morons.

Just like the vagueness you see in the piece posted by the OP. It fails to distinguish the fact that although the movies in which Dwayne Johnson starred grossed a large number when grouped together, it doesn't mention how much money he grossed individually as an actor, yet he is named the highest grossing actor of 2013.

Not to mention that what we do in the form of paying taxes, which goes to funding welfare, is in itself a form of charity when you come to think of it. Hence, what the Forbes writer was stating in the interview was only more redundant rhetoric that failed to make any sense.

Don't disagree....except on one point, taxes as charitable contributions. I'm unaware of any charitable organizations that will throw me and jail and strip me of my worldly goods unless I contribute to their cause blindly unaware of where the money will go ;D

He's decent but he wasn't the main star of any of these films.  The success of those films weren't dependent on his participation.

Highest grossing actor, yes.....however i'm sure the likes of a George Clooney/Dicaprio etc etc would be earning a hell of a lot more than "The Rock"

That being said, not like he is earning a pittance either...
No doubt about it...

For the most part I agree with your aforementioned post, however, these numbers published by Forbes were eye opening in regards to our out of control welfare system.

Tanner and Hughes award the national welfare championship to Hawaii, which offers $60,590 in annual welfare benefits, once you account for the fact that welfare benefits are tax-free to the recipient, compared to work-related wages. That’s the equivalent of $29.13 an hour. Rounding out the top five were D.C. ($50,820 per year and $24.43 an hour), Massachusetts ($50,540 and $24.30), Connecticut ($44,370 and $21.33), and New York ($43,700 and $21.01).

States with the lowest welfare benefits were Idaho ($11,150 and $5.36), Mississippi ($11,830 and $5.69), Tennessee ($12.120 and $5.83), Arkansas ($12,230 and $5.88), and Texas ($12,550 and $6.03).

Don't get me wrong, the welfare system in this country is broken.

We have way too many folks on welfare, who do not belong in any sort of public assistance program.

Yet, this is the problem with creating these entitlement programs. The deeper the roots of these programs get, the harder it is to pull the plug. The millions of Americans on it would go insane and possibly start to violently riot.

It's a darn mess....
