he wernt a bodybuilder .. he was naturally built like that!  ;)

lennie's greatest victory was in the 70s when an old retired mafia don livin in london heard of this 'unbeatable' streetfighter... so he organised a fight in america with the mafia's greatest underground brawler.

lennie was taken to a disused warehouse in new york full of mafiosa and a hyooge 6ft 5' nig nog.

lennie battered the black unconsciouse in a minute and broke both his hands on his head ,lol.

used the guys head as a football too when he was down !  ;D

he walked out that fight with 16 grand and left his hotel asap in case the mafia returned to bump him off and take his winnins!

oh and btw .. lennie was practically unbeatable untill he met a giant psycho called cliff field. field knocked him cold twice ... and in one of the fights  kicked lennie's unconsciouc body out the ring then proceeded to batter him while he was asleep! donchya just love underground fights !  ;D

I heard Lenny once lost to Roy Shaw (although he got the better of Shaw on two other occassions), but Damn, I never heard of Lenny taking beatings like that. When did those fights happen? And whatever happened to this Cliff Field character?

lennie always liked to promote himself as a fighter that couldnt lose.

but he lost a few times.... cliff field is an old grey haired bunky eyed f'uck up now ... but his exploits with lennie were legendary.

i think cliff field is about 6ft 10 ... and was a bit of a no hoper in life when he origionally fought lennie.

aparently leniie's reputation was monstorous... but a dodgy pub landlord who knew cliff offered the guy, down on his luck, a grand if hed take the fight. cliff needed the money so the fight was arranged.

cliff was a deranged powerhouse in the ring .... in the first fight frank warren was 'managin' lennies underground fights (thats was how he cut his teeth in the fight game) and was screamin at lennie to 'get him , lay into him ' ... and lennie was screamin back 'you f'uckin do him '.  ;D

but it was not to be... cliff field never gave a fuck and lennie met more than his match. in the second fight lennie went down for so long cliff thought he had killed him ,lol! ;D

remember for every napolean there is a wellington!  ;)

i dont like readin gangster 'autobiographies' .. they seem to be schoolboy yarns for hardknock wannabes!  all very adolescent !;D

iv got all of lennies underground fights on dvd! the quality is shockin but you must remember the footage was from 70s cinecams .. often flimed from in the crowd and with shockin degradation in media transfer.

it was funny seein pretty boy shaw bein knocked through the ropes by the guvnor in their return fight ... roys legs went up towards the ceilin like a bitch about to be strumped  ;D

Book is good, obviously theres stuff about his most high profile fights and obviously they're embelished a little for entertainment purposes....got to make it appeal to the masses.....

...but theres also lots on his family, his relationships with other nefarious characters around at the time, time in prison, getting film work, helping Frank Warren start in the promotions business, various jobs he's had and his childhood.....

...it is a pretty good read actually.

oh and heres another thing iv noticed with most of these lone psychos/one man armies/heavies... and iv observed this first hand....

.... they tend to be illiterate.  ;)

stretton couldnt read or write .. great bloke to have on yourside ... and used to make a tidy penny extortin and brutalisin pimps , drug dealers and any other naughty boys, lol.
he was a fiendish kidnapper and could think and problem solve in a fashion that was way out the box ... but we had to read all his mail and write letters for him.  :D

show me a crime 'kingpin' and ill show ya an illiterate , frustrated, bullied kid who grew up to be a resourceful monster.  ;)

It was made with Hollywood money so had to appeal to a wider market than just britain. Hence the 'carry on-esque' nature of the film.

It could have been one of the greatest gansta flicks ever if it were a well funded, independent british film. The same story more or less, only very dark and bloody.

It was still enjoyable though unless your a  wannabe  8)

the kind of arseholes that wear long leather jackets and sunglasses in mcdonalds but aint even got a parket ticket to their name!  ;D

'sexy beast' is a good bit of entertainment... ray winston is good as a crim gone soft.. but ben kingsley is truly electrifyin as don logan , the backstreet thug. its quite remarkable actin ... its his film in fact.

whod have thought a lil jew bastard who played gandhi had that kind of performance in him?  ;D

lovejoy mcshane is horrific in that too! he should do more psycho parts... him and ben could intimidate real thugs without firin a shot or raisin a cricket bat behavin like that!  ;D
