Keep it in scrounge-able calibers and easy to find weapons. That would mean 5.56 in M4/M16 platforms and various 9mm. In the first season, when they went to the CDC and passed all of those weapons in the parking lot. Madness. Also, WTF with Rick and his 8 pound Colt Python? Hard to find caliber and 6 shots? Ridiculous. Even Carl has more sense with a suppressed 9mm.
Also, a well placed .22 would seem to be enough. A suppressed 10/22?
Everybody runs the same guns. M4 and Glock 17. No exceptions. Parts interchangeability.
Also, I would break all of the selector switches on full-auto guns. Just a waste of ammo.
In the novel "World War Z" (not the absurd movie), the Army developed a long-handled hand-to-hand weapon that eventually was called "the Lobotomizer" or "lobo" for short.
Everything suppressed. No exceptions. If you aren't on watch, then you are cleaning your weapon, eating chow or getting sleep.
Make a beeline to the water. Get to a flotilla or to an island where you can eradicate the local zombie pop.
Everybody sleeps in a fucking cage, especially when they are sick with a hemorrhagic fever, FFS!
