Bilateral Supraspinatus Tendonitis

Hi everyone,

I have had very bad shoulders, amongst other things, since i was in an accident about 6 years ago and about 3-4 months ago i started training again. They were always in pain but i did my best to ignore it as i was seeing noticable gains in my physique and my strength. Last week i was doing incline benches and during my warm up my left arm gave way resulting in the bar collapsing on me which fortunately didnt cause any lasting problems.

I have had an assessment and am being x-rayed next week and the doctor said that i could possibly have supraspinatus tendonitis in both shoulders. I know nothing about this, but surely if anyone was in the know it would be someone on this site.

Does anyone know what i can expect long term, is there a procedure that can ease the pain or will it simply be pain management from here on? Thank you in advance.

I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I'm not sure if I have BST myself, but I do have rotator issues for sure. Because of this, I start with some rotator cuff movements before I start with a delt, back or chest training. It took a few weeks but it seems to pay off, the pain becomes less.

When something hurts, you're not supposed to ignore it -lol 

I've been nursing a bad shoulder now for the last 2 years.  It's just mileage and wear and tear.  As we age our bodies cannot perform like we did when we were younger.  It's very difficult for most to accept this fact.  Your routine must change you will end up crippled later on. 

You need an MRI and find out what is really going on.  After that you need to find a competent specialist/therapist who really knows their shit (in my experience, they are far and few between).

Get an MRI. Until then I'd try to keep the chest/shoulder training to a minimum. Make sure you stay away barbell/machine work. I would recommend dumbbells in give meantime due to the fact that you can control each one individually for better ROM. Make sure that you are warming up your delts with light dumbbells before all workouts. An emphasis on more back work will help alleviate the pain as well.

I slab tears in both of my labrums, so working around injuries has become my strong suit. But definitely get an MRI.

You should do cross friction massage on the supraspinatus where it attaches on the anterior side of the shoulder. If you have any microtears or scar tissue which you most likely do, this will alleviate it
