That is NOT an underated song.

It was basically played nonstop when I was in 9th grade.

And I am from Jersey, far away from where Rap-A-Lot Records was located (Houston).

The Geto Boys were the first "Dirty South" rappers, and they straight brought it with this album.

I grew up in Canada and we all knew about the geto boys.

Good pick of underrated lyricists btw silverspoon.

Thank you.

People (that I didn't grow up with) are very surprised when they find out I am huge fan of classic hip hop.  My library is fairly extensive, and there was a time in my life when rocking the party with a song very few people knew about brought great pleasure.

I once saw a concert where Souls of Mischief opened up for Pharcyde.  Great concert.

Saw the Roots play live for free before they blew up.

Good times.

Great song, but underated?

By whom?

Mobb Deep is legendary, even with all of the in-fighting.

I guess it all depends on which circles you are talking about.  In some circles, Kool G Rap is underated, but amongst lifelong fans of hip hop, he is a legend.

The song was very popular in 1991 (not underrated back then).

But it is underrated in 2013 (soon to be 2104). I know for a fact that many people, in their early 20's, have not even heard of this song.

Oh, you aren't from U.S.?

You must have heard of Kraftwerk, correct?  They were a huge influence on hip hop, and don't get very much respect.  "Trans Europe Express" is a specific song that influenced hip hop.

Those kids don't know anything about hip hop, so it hardly makes it an underated song.  That song is played on the regular on XM's "Backspin".

Some very underated songs get played on XM Backspin, and Ed Lover (or some other DJ) will say:  "This is an underated, underground song that I had to dig deep into the archives..."

Funny how people try to break you down every which way possible simply by how you look. And then there's the fools with a very narrow taste in music who feel the need to dress according to what they listen to. It's like their minds are still trapped in highschool.

To a lot of us old farts its when it died.

Yeah, I always dressed preppy/classic as that is my style.  Even when I had long hair.  Khakis or blue jeans, a polo or pocket T, and Stan Smiths were pretty much what I would always wear.  Frye engineer boots when it was colder weather.

But a huge fan of hip hop.  Never wore "the uniform", although I did have a Wu Wear snow hat.   ;)

Nice, Jeru the Damaja.

Which leads to a group he worked with, who I think is VERY underated, even when they were recognized:  Gang Starr.

Gang Starr and DOC were my weapons of choice back in the day. Throw in some Eric B and Rakim and it was on.

Paid in Full is an all time CLASSIC.

From front to back.  No need to skip any songs.

I told the story of when MC Lite came to my school and asked if anyone liked rap and I raised my hand.  I surprised that ghost written rapper.

Yes.  She came to my middle school (I was 13 at the time) and asked:  "Who here likes rap?"

I raised my hand, and I know she picked me because I was the only white kid with his hand up.

"Who is your favorite rapper?"

"I don't know if I have a favorite.  But right now, I really like Eric B. and Rakim's "Paid in Full".

The look on her face was priceless.
