Very negative connotation put on the coverage, ...however, I viewed the show in context, and it didn't come across to me as the coverage implied. Infact, I heard a lot of oohs and awws as the picture was shown. It's quite possible a track of oohs & awws were later laid down, however, i didn't see what the vicious mocking of a child, the original coverage implied. The comment in question was the comment of one person. It could be however, that I viewing her comments against the backdrop of comments directed towards John McCains family by fellow Republicans over his adopted Bangladeshi daughter. Now those were vicious.

Personally, I thought the baby was adorable.

It was part of the 'Nerdland-Caption That' segment. 5 minute segment.

BULL SHIT, you either didnt watch the video or youre a racist prick.

They obviously were making fun of that child implying he doesnt belong in the picture calling him a token.

Way to dismiss the outright hypocrisey and racism

Comment was rude, inappropriate - and also, quite unfunny.

There are some comedians that offend but are downright funny.

This host isn't funny, isn't thought provoking, isn't pointing out anything that matters, and really isn't doing anything but picking on a baby due to its race.

I haven't watched msnbc in about a year - my posts her make it clear I've watched maybe 5-6 times and posted every time lol -  but I've always found this host Melissa Harris-Perry to be, frankly, not interesting at all.  I mean, contessa brewer was a pissed off wreck.  that alex whit something was kinda hot milfish.  Dan abrams was a funny little dude.  Jerry nachman was AWESOME.  Lester holt was like a caricature of a news anchor.

these new hosts are boring as fck, let's be honest.

100% accurate

thank you good sir.   I want to make sure conservatives that haven't ever watched MSNBC won't go promoting this boring, lame, and overall not bright host to some level of "left wing icon".   She's a below average anchor on a below average network.  She's not the Rush Limbaugh of the left.  She's entirely unremarkable.

There was no point in showing that photo other than to make fun of it.

That's what's so disgusting.

HAHAHAHA!!

Now she apologizes.

http://www.businessinsider.com/melissa-harris-perry-romney-family-black-grandchild-apology-2013-12

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry offered an apology to the Romney family on Tuesday after a panel on her show mocked the fact that one of Mitt Romney's grandchildren was black.

Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/melissa-harris-perry-romney-family-black-grandchild-apology-2013-12#ixzz2p4HXqttT

As the host of the show, I'm glad she apologized.
I think that could have been a snippet that failed to make the final edit.

Haven't read the link yet, but does anyone know what if any apology Pia has issued?

I watched the video, I thought Pia's comment reflected her mentality.
I thought the baby was adorable. As far as the picture goes, my immediate thoughts were,
...waaaaay too much pink. But that's just me. Maybe I'm weighing my reaction against an impression formed by the initial condemnation. I also got the impression they were taking a poke at Romney, and not the child.

In any event, I agree it was in very poor taste.

As an aside, Pia's little song, has always been one of my biggest objections to Sesame Street.
It teaches pre-schoolers some great things, ...but it also teaches prejudice and conformity.  :'(

It is not the first time that those type of remarks, attacking someone's family, are made on MSNBC.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/sarah-palin-msnbc-mitt-romney-attack-article-1.1562152

Panelist and comedian Judy Gold commented on Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, expressing her dismay that the Republican was the father of two daughters, Catherine and Caroline.

"Men like this … they have daughters. That disturbs me," she said, chiding Cruz and conservative Republicans for being anti-women.

I saw this segment as I waded through the various clips to find the Romney reference, and for me this was clearly an attack on Cruz, NOT his daughters. His daughters may have been mentioned but they weren't attacked.

Actually Tu, the segment was about controversial photos that got a lot of reaction during the year.

Romney's photo got a lot of reaction in 2013.  That was the point of including it with the others they showed.

Bull. The only reason it got a reaction was because people are sad and they wanted to make fun of Romney.

Quit pandering to the liberal groups.

Was it, or was it not a photo that got a huge amount of reaction throughout the year?

No question in my mind Pia's reaction to the photo was indeed tasteless. That she would even say that on national television is a very poor reflection on her IMO, however, I viewed Obeidallah's comment as a jab at the Republican Party, not at the baby.

I'm not pandering to anyone, ...I'm just not feeling manipulated by the outrage.

Is it simply because this isn't the type of outrage you're normally manipulated by?  Some people drink only Pepsi and other only coke.  They choose the brand most appealing to them but in the end they are both drinking sugar water.

No, I just didn't think the show was deliberately making fun of, or attempting to attack a baby.
I think Pia revealed herself to be a racist, ...and I believe the flack is hers.

I think the show's editors and producers were asleep at the wheel for letting Pia's comment go out there,
...and I'm glad that Melissa Harris-Perry, as the host of the show took responsibility, and issued an unreserved apology to the Romney family for any hurt the segment may have caused them. It would have been nice if her apology was extended to everyone, ...especially those in blended multiracial families, but my head is not yet exploding over the commentary.

I don't see the need to attack Ted Cruz in that manner either.

You may disagree with his politics but he has always presented himself as a stand up individual IMO.

Myself and all my siblings, with the exception of one of my sister, married and had children with someone who was of a difference race or multiracial.  My brothers wife is particularly dark. Their children turned out very light.  I'd hate to think people are talking like that when my brother is out with his kids or his wife for that matter.

It could be a very valid thought. Have any of you cringed at an individual to such an extent, you have to ask yourself what their home life must be like?

I think Pia's comment in that segment were spot on. He could have used anything, ...this was his "Hitler moment", and he instead chose Dr. Seuss? WTF?!?!
