Ironically Ali came round and was better for it, went on to absolutely dominate the fight. But would he have recovered enough in regulation time to dominate in that fashion? its all speculation, hes called the best for a reason.

doesnt make him any less of a coward for ducking out by 'finding religion' while his brothers, sisters, and fellow Americans were out there doing their part fighting and dying....  the politics were irrelevant. .. citizens got called to do their duty, and they went, and many never returned home. Except him, he thought he was somehow special and wasnr responsible to do his part as a citizen when his number came up.

Imho he should have lost his citizenship and been deported.

He never would have even set foot in nam, they would have had him boxing in the Army or Marines.

dude may have been the best boxer in history but he was a piece of shit as a person and a coward imho.

/grandpa shockwave rant

blind honour.

Utter "Muhammed Ali" around my grandfather and be prepared to get lectured about that coward ass draft dodging piece of shit Cacsius clay, and never to mention ali around him again. (My grandfather is a veteran of WWII, korea and Vietnam, and he volunteered at 17..) he has no love for Ali. He hates him with a violent passion for bitching out on his duty as an American citizen.

I totally understand your grandfathers position on this. My Grandfather was in WWII my father did 3 tours in Nam and my Brother is on his 19th year of service.

My angle is this. Many Black men went off to war faught bravely and died and came back to be hanged by the people they protected...IN THEIR DRESS BLUES...by people that didnt fight. And Ali understood that.. He understood that he could go off to war get his ass blowed off and still have to sit in the colored section of a restaurant and be called BOY by men younger than him that never served simply because of the color of his skin...These are all facts, and actual scenarios that have happened to vets coming home from fighting. So thought he might have been wrong in your eyes. There is something to be said about a man that comes to Self-actualization and says "hey why should i risk my life for a country that that says i aint good for shit but dying in a war"

Now about this Ali Tyson shit...

Lennox Lewis' dimensions were comparable to Alis in terms of reach with emphasis on that left Jab.

Lennox was able to keep Tyson at bay. A prime Ali would have been able to beat a prime pit bull Tyson by moving and keeping tyson away with that long jab. And remember Ali could put a right cross behind that quick ass jab as well.

In terms of hight and reach. Vs Tyson they both had 10" reach advantage over Tyson. They were both tall heavyweights.

That was a great shot no doubt about it.

I had Marciano right on the outside of my top 3.

My grandfathers best friend in New York was Jack Dempsey.  He would fly down and do all kinds of promotional events from him.  I have many pictures and telegrams and other memorabilia from Dempsey.  I would have to rank Jack Dempsey as one of the greatest of all time as well.

Dempsey and Ruth were like Gods back in the 20s.

Marciano, Dempsey, Tunney, Holmes, Foreman for the 2nd tier and THEN you start talking about the Fraziers, Tyson's, Klitchkos, Liston in that 3rd tier

Holmes, though, really? Man, his fights were boring. Did he face legit HWs like Ali did?

I know, he was the man of my time. But wasn't he just competing in a weak era? I can't imagine a prime Ali having any trouble with Larry.

Ali handles him fairly easily.

Tier 1 - Ali, Louis, Lewis

Tier 2 - Marciano, Dempsey, Tunney, Holmes, Foreman

Tier 3 you start getting into the Fraziers, Tyson's, Klitchskos, Listons, Holyfields

With a special shoutout to the old timey fighters like John L Sullivan, James Jeffries and Jack Johnson
