back in the day I used to have to work up to a 405 deadlift and psyche myself up for it.
now, some punk ass kids will leave a 405/455lb loaded bar on the floor in front of the rack and i'll pick it up at around closing time after being at work off and on for 13hours and walk it 6-8ft to the rack without even thinking about it.
didn't deadlift in probably a year, and about a month ago at the end of a back day somebody left a loaded bar on the floor with 500-something so I thought 'what the hell' and pulled it for a few, then threw some more weight on it (some kg plates) and pulled 630 for a triple... that's a personal best, after not deadlifting for a year. lol. my face was purple and I was sure I was either gonna rupture a disk or have a stroke... luckily I did neither. lol
that was with Versa-Grips, double overhand btw with a complete stop, no bounce, at the bottom.... pretty sure I could pull 700+ if I gave it a go.
