Johnny, this will kill a cat really fast.  They cannot eat vegetables.

Dogs, such as my Greyhounds, do eat a lot of different things, but they have a higher than normal protein and fat requirement that can only be met by beef and chicken.  I bake them 20 lbs of chicken thighs every weak, a few lbs of Broccoli and they go through a few tubs of Greek Yogurt.  I also buy them double hamburgers sometimes from Burger King which they love.  Occasionally I will sous vide them a steak.

Kitten Nearly Dies On Vegan Diet, Gets Healed With Meat

A kitten who nearly died after its owners fed it a strict vegan diet was nursed back to health with 20 CCs of meat.

It turns out that a diet of potatoes, rice milk and pasta is bad for pussy. Veterinarians in Australia who cared for a violently ill vegan kitten are warning pet owners not to "force ideologies" on their pets, the Herald Sun reports.

Lort Smith Animal Hospital workers in North Melbourne told the site that the kitten was brought in this month by its owners, who were believed to be vegan.

"It was extremely weak and collapsed when it came in. It was almost non-responsive," Dr. Leanne Pinfold said.

The kitty was given intravenous fluids, placed on a heat pad and fed plenty of meat, the Orlando Sentinel reports. The poor orange kitteh spent three days in the hospital.

Though the idea of turning a carnivorous cat into a pretentious leaf masticator is popular, vets say it's dangerous.

"You can't force your ideology on the cat," Pinfold told the Herald Sun. "Carnivores will seek out meat and your cat is possibly more likely to go hunting and kill local native fauna if you deprive it of meat."

She reportedly gave the owners meat to feed the little guy.

now i think a cat can eat corn, beans, cheese, bread but leafy greens would cause a cat to choke

just feed the animals more fats and corn, beans easy to digest

Cats are obligate carnivores and additionally REQUIRE the amino acid taurine, really only found in organ meats. TA is right, vegan will kill a cat.

Not for my Greyhounds.  They would not be able to eat the amounts of vegetables to meet their needs as their stomachs are not that big.  This would actually be akin to animal cruelty as they would be in extreme pain given the volume they would need to eat.  Also, they can be prone to bloat and the amount of food could easily do that.  If that happens its can be fatal and usually is.

So no, it wouldn`t work.

Now my dad, in the 1950s, had a little dog named Skippy who had the North Carolina record for longevity at one time.  He lived well into his 20s and my dad cooked him nothing but vegetables.  He was a little dog though and did not need much nutrition wise.

Would it be OK to feed my cat refried beans with onion powder topped with ketchup?   I asked the local veterinarian what I should be feeding my cat, and he said I should ask Getbig.

Professor Fluffington wouldn't even touch the hotdogs i gave him.

Oh brother  ::)  as if dogs and cats have the same nutritional needs as humans.
and btw... heartworm is transmitted through mosquitoes and if contracted a painful, difficult treatment and/or death.

Avoid the onion powder  ;)

Onions and Garlic

All members of the onion family (shallots, onions, garlic, scallions, etc.) contain compounds that can damage cats’ red blood cells if eaten in sufficient quantities. Garlic tends to be more toxic than onions on an ounce-for-ounce basis, and cooking does not destroy the toxin. While it’s uncommon for cats to eat enough raw onions and garlic to cause serious problems, exposure to concentrated forms of onion or garlic, such as dehydrated onions, onion soup mix or garlic powder, can put cats at risk of toxicosis (poisoning). For example, some sick cats who are fed baby food containing onion powder develop anemia. The damage to red blood cells caused by onions and garlic generally doesn’t become apparent until three to five days after ingestion. Affected cats might seem weak or reluctant to move, or they might have pale gums. Their urine can be orange-tinged to dark red. Cats with any of these symptoms should be examined by a veterinarian immediately. In severe cases, blood transfusions may be necessary.

Johnny; vegetarian diets are fine for people but not for dogs and cats. They need to be eating meat.

People who put their dog on vegetarian diet annoy me.  >:(

they are not designed to eat a vegan diet. all you have to do is look at the giant canines in their mouths.

Why cook the thighs?  No need to do that.

I would suggest giving them some raw drumsticks or Turkey necks.... the connective tissue is good for their teeth & innards.  Haven't fed my dogs prepared dog food in a while.  Nothing but organ meats, whole fish, veggies, and eggs
