1st off, he just was in the 2002 Master's Olympia and came in 2nd to Don Youngblood...i was there and it was VERY political. He's a good guy, great bodybuilder and fun to watch on stage.

Give Credit to Vince. He was one of the best Pro in bodybuilding. Kevin Levrone was the only second Pro next to Vince with more IFBB Wins. GO VINCE.

The winning fan makes more $ with a 29k Hummer than the 1st place winner at 25k.

That's like giving away a Lombardi trophy to the loudest person at a high school football game.

I wonder if alternatively, upping the 1st place prize $ to $54k would have brought in a higher caliber of athlete, leading to higher caliber of sponsors, and a positive success spiral of results.

Who knows. Maybe I'm just crabby I can't win the H3.

I didn't mean to insult/offend the sponsors. Perhaps it should have read "more sponsorship money".

If Sasha Ray could have promised $100k first prize (right up there with the ASC and the O) and NO H3 prize, he'd be at a potential loss of 47k (100K - (25K + 29k))

If he guaranteed Dex, Gustavo, and/or Cutler could compete, it's reasonable to think Shawn could grab another 47k in sponsorship money. Who knows, perhaps he could have gotten 75K in add'l funds (and some PPV/webcast revenue) and STILL gave away the H3 and the 100k.

Just looking at it from another angle... why try to be the next NY Pro when you can compete with the ASC?

A distant third. Very distant. comparing 25k to 100k is a huge difference.

And it is huge in the quality of athlete competing.

i agree with 240 that some how the award money could have been increased with the sacraficial lamb being the car. or maybe shawn should have just awarded the car to the overall winner of the the show. of course to award a hummer would be biting arnold, but hey nothing wrong with trying to copy the best show in bb.

of course all these suggestions are just hogwash unless you really know how the money is being spent on the show. while maybe the hummer was offered to the show for free, with the advertising for the car being the payment, maybe shawn just gives a percentage of the gate to the car dealership not exceeding a certain amount, but certainly less than the car. in this case the car is still offered at a substantial discount.

in any case, shawn great job on getting the sponsers that you did, and I hope this is only the begining for your show.

I met Vince in the MR O in NY (forgot what year that was). I wish him the best. I loved that comment up a few threads about "Vince has better genetics than God) thats great, it basically explains how hes gonna come back at 49.

Its his first show 240, it may very well be that what you say does transpire in a few years of it but for now the pull of winning a h3 will bring in more people than specific lifters I would say.

Vince is Awesome. Good luck to him. I think he will bring it. I read once that he didn't even start BB until he was 35 anyway - so he is relatively fresh - it would be foolish of him not to keep competing selectively and cash in on it.

Or: He loves competing and he loves the sport so it's worth it to him.

The success of his show will be tied directly to the number of athletes he has entered into the amateur show. That is where the money is, not in the pro show.
