"Ordered some pizza on the new cordless phone, then the wife and I are gonna watch 'Wayne's World'. Rented it from the video store on the way home from the gym"

In 1993, in reaction to multi-million dollar settlements arising from car accidents involving its delivery drivers, Domino's ended its delivery guarantee. While the pizza maker never admitted its drivers drove unsafely in their efforts to beat the 30-minute deadline, at a 1993 news conference Domino's owner Thomas S. Monaghan said the guarantee was being dropped in an attempt to fight a "public perception of reckless driving and irresponsibility."

That perception was fueled by a couple of key lawsuits against Domino's. In 1992, the company agreed to pay $2.8 million to the family of an Indiana woman killed by one of its delivery people. The woman, 41-year-old Susan Noonan Wauchop of Calumet City, Illinois, died when a Domino's truck struck her van near the Indiana-Michigan border in 1990, an accident that also injured three of her sons and a friend. Domino's has always maintained that road and weather conditions, not the delivery time requirements, were the primary factors behind that crash.

Yet it was a case ruled upon in 1993 that rang down the curtain on the "30 minutes or it's free" guarantee. An injury to a 49-year-old St. Louis, Missouri, woman, whose car was struck by a Domino's driver in 1989, led to an award of $750,000 in actual damages and $78 million in punitive damages against the pizza company. Jean Kinder, the injured driver, had suffered injuries to her head and back after the driver of the pizza delivery vehicle ran a red light and struck her vehicle.

Domino's still offers its customers a guarantee that they will be satisfied with the product, but it is a quality guarantee rather than a time-dependent one. Says the company's Total Satisfaction Guarantee: "If for any reason you are dissatisfied with your Domino's Pizza dining experience, we will re-make your pizza or refund your money."

Interesting that you should mention pizza. My son-in-law is fixing Papa Murphy's thin crust, chicken garlic pizza for our dinner tonight. I was going to have onion soup, since I have barely done anything physical today and really don't need to eat a lot of food. But, pizza sounds good. To hell with will power!

Yes... we know they aren't doing 30 minutes or less any longer... It's the historical context we love.

Tu,

Let me know what you think of the Domino`s.  They reformulated everything pretty recently and was wondering how it compares to their older style.  I have still have yet to try it.

Now if you were to visit the NYC I would take you to a different pizza place every day for a week and you'd love every one of them and they all would taste different

Its on my to do list.  I have replicated the New York style and many other styles and love them all.  Bar Pizza is great too!  No such thing as bad pizza.  There is a pizza place near me that is NY style.  Their family lives in New Jersey and every two weeks they go to NYC and buy their meats and come back down.  They make a great NY pizza and I had him take me back in his kitchen to show me his techniques.

Here is one of mine with a few days cold ferment on the crust.

Very nice...there is a local bar that serves one person pizzas..place is awesome no menus, no other food just pizza ..Friday nights there is a line out the door for pickups,

from what I hear water is key to the crust...I've heard of a few places in different parts of the country that have water from this area shipped to them.

That made from scratch pizza looks wonderful.  I have made pizza with refrigerated dough from Pillsbury which is better than most frozen.  I would imagine yours with scratch dough would be light years ahead of mine.

That looks beautiful, Adam. I'd love to enjoy a slice, but I'd have to consult my food diary, do some intense mathematical calculations and see whether or not it fits into my macronutrient allowance...

Just kidding, I'm not a retard. Looks delicious and I'd crush that pizza with the might of Thor's hammer. 8)

I have to be honest brother... I think it's absolutely delicious.

The new stuff is leaps and bounds tastier... and I'm truly a thin crust junkie... The new thin crust dough is amazing.

You should try it and make yourself one similar, but with your own flair... I know how you can get about your food.

Good thread Tu_holmes.

Papa Johns has a new pizza called the double cheeseburger. Comes with double beef, dill pickles, and roma tomatoes, and they switch pizza sauce for a "hamburger sauce".

I took off the tomatoes and added bacon instead.  That pizza was spectacular! It tasted like a Big mac pizza. The hamburger sauce is fantastic. Think of Big mac's sauce.

Make sure you request an Extra sauce portion on your pizza. It's free, and it guarantees that you will get adequate sauce.
