Veterans - Would you still serve in the military?
« on: February 17, 2014, 09:38:39 AM »
If you could do it over again...would you still serve in the military?  Would you serve in the same branch?  For more or less time?

Just curious, no agenda here.

I would still say most of the stuff i've said over the years, but I might choose a different username like bigmc or something and then just have BigCyp as a gimmick when I really want to bring the funny.

Even though each of the services have something to offer, I'd probably still go the army way...but I would do one of two things:

1.  Go in straight from high school and go for 30...or
2.  Go to either West Point (if I got accepted) or one of the "senior military colleges" (like VMI or The Citadel) and make a career that way

either one of those, or just not join at all

Fuck, I hate hearing this from people. I've got a little less than two years left on my extension, and I'm thinking about walking. The Airforce is ran like a Fortune 500 company first, branch of military second...and it's hard to function like that within my perticular careerfield.

I'm sure it's a case of "the grass is always greener" especially those of us who are old enough that we could have retired by now.

You got accepted into West Point?  Outstanding.

A friend of mine applied to the Air Force Academy but his request was flatly denied.

No, no I was offered West Point Prep during AIT, if I passed (1 year of prep) I would have been offered WP but I already got accepted at Penn State, so I turned it down. I was reserve first then went active duty.

Going into the military is stupid a bunch of fat government assholes using you to further their interests, controlling oil in a country or putting in a puppet president, you get your limbs blown off then you are giving a cheap medal and a handshake and you go home fucked up in the head for the rest of your life, only a stupid retarded fuck would sign up for a deal like this.

USMC!!! Hell yea!!!

Missed it when I got out and became a civilian.

In fact I know three USMC vets who passed away within months of getting out..

Actually  ..... one was run over by a truck.

Give it 20 and then receive  a monthly paycheck while you look for  a job you might love just as much. (Hit man, drug lord, or even run for political office.)

Then you have two or possibly three monthly incomes and very few financial worries.

And some of you x-mil guys and gals may be unaware of the VA benefits that are totally free and cover everything but dental unless your dental problem was military related... ie.. Shot in the mouth wih a cannon ball.

You don't even have to get confused by the Obama Plan.

I would do it again if I had it to do over but I would get out at the 4 year mark rather than the 10 yr mark.

My Son has been in the US Navy for 7 years now. I went to the base in California and trained and about three guys and two lesbians were in shape. It was terrible. This old man was in way better shape than the average 25-30 year old in the military (spec ops excluded). It seems like alcohol and bad food is all anyone cares about. I left bummed out.

The military is Socialism that works well.  No idea why Republicans and Democrats alike don`t realize that.
