Towards the end of the video he benched 495 pounds for two reps and he is pausing on his chest for a bit so he is one strong dude, if he trained for the worlds strongest man or a bench press contest i am sure he would do well.
worlds apart from Spotos 722 bench

Paus reps at 1.25 bodyweight.  ::)

Ronnie did 495 for 5 reps, this guy did 1. And he has the benefit of being a permabulker.

Ronnie > this guy.

Not to mention: Stripped down to Coleman's conditioning in TCOR, he would be a whole lot smaller. My guess is he's carrying about 60-70lbs of fat and water underneath that impressive husk of muscle.

Big difference between benching 500 at 10% BF and doing it at 20%+.

If it wasn't for the pause reps, I think he could do more. How much, I don't know. Would like to seem train for bench pressing.
From what it looks like, dude just likes to lift.

Would be interesting to see what he could do with an arched back and bench shirt.

I'd have his max around 525-550lbs going by the video. Very strong but a long way off being elite.

This is elite:

yeah, you maybe right...
And that was...damn...but, dude's gut is way bigger than his chest.
And I have to say this about the hulk, even though his chest is big, it's got that "bulk big" look to it. You know the look... Don't know if does inclines or not.

possibly more impressive than Spoto because of the "form". back flat to bench.

But world record is world record and Spoto has it.

We're talking about Spoto here. Coleman would look positively pathetic benching beside Eric Spoto. So, too, this "Da ( ::)) Hulk" clown.

(LOL @ talk of someone here pressing 650 for reps without a bench shirt. Even Spoto wouldn't crush more than a few at that poundage, and he's BY FAR the greatest bench presser of this day.)

This oilbag hulk guy isn't very impressive. As said, he's full of oil and gas, and his strength isn't impressive, all things considered. Yeah, he did mega-pauses with 405, but he just lets the bar sit on his chest, caving it in, before the toobox shouts, "Hulk smash!". And he gets five like this.

I really hate this "Da" (duh?) dude.

Hell, even a prime Kovacs, he of the endless horseshit strength claims, would annihilate him. And standing next to him, "Da" would simply disappear. Of course, Greg is dead, but ... yeah.

How much did Coleman weigh here? This was his biggest ever shape offseason, in 2005. My guess is he was prodding 350. Consider he was 325 in the beginning of Relentless, which was the end of his 2006 offseason. So I'm assuming at 350, he could probably bench 585 for 1-2 reps at least, given that in 2003 he did 5x 495 in close to precontest shape.

where do you get the "full of oil"? His arms, particularly his tris look normal to me.
I find it funny how people on here talk about how bbers are boring and their training vids suck, and then when you get vids like this, there is still criticism.
I think the main goal of this vid is to get people inspired. Sure, there is a lot of hyperbole in this vid, but I take it as one big unknown dude lifting some heavy weight. Dude is not cocky, and If anything Ronnie and Spoto would probably give this dude his props.

It takes nothing to just say, "dude is a big strong mofo" and leave it at that.
It takes more energy to do otherwise.

coleman would blow spotto away if he practiced bench pressing for 6 months and bulked up to 380-400lbs

You're so out to lunch it's embarrassing.

Coleman wasn't a great presser, even considering his huge gas intake and size.

Do you have even the SLIGHTEST understanding of the colossal difference between five for several and a few with almost 700 pounds?!

Please stop embarrassing yourself.

Spoto is in a whole other league. Even amongst true elite pressers he's an anomoly.

There was some black guy who was even bigger than this guy in a Youtube video doing 495 for reps. He was talking about how he only eats twice a day to conserve energy. Dude was at least 350, maybe 400, but not that fat. Anyway, he was more wide that this guy, was doing inclines, and didn't do any of the stupid screaming or posturing.

Can't see the oil? Quite obvious, fella.

James Henderson who held the "natural" raw bench record at 711lbs

That's him. Guy is a real humble and respectable dude, unless this clown in the video.

One-trick ponies or not, the VERY few of Eric's abilities (like, maybe three or four, ever) were/are grotesquely gifted in their chosen pursuit.

Like Coleman is as a bodybuilder.

In that one video where Ronnie's pressing 495, he's hardly "feeling" the weight. He simply struggles for several reps.

What many don't know, is that a great many high-level bodybuilders are MUCH stronger pre-contest, as this is when most are really going for it, drug-wise. Simply adding 50 pounds of fast-added fat won't make much of a difference. Perhaps another 25 pounds for a few. There's about. And specialty training will have to be done for more than six months to put appreciable pounds on the bar. Over 5/600, every additional pound is monster.

For the record, only three men have EVER officially pressed seven or more, raw.

Again, spare yourself the embarrassment and don't comment on that which you do not know.

sure

James Henderson was a legend bencher like Scot Mendelson and now Spotto

Yes, one of only three who have ever pressed seven or more, raw.

Are you talking about his triceps?
This vid may not be inspirational to you...but to others who may need a boost, to motivate them, it might be.
Also, this vid is targeted to those who make excuses to skip out...Like the thread below.
This vid is not targeted to guys who are already motivated.
That is CT Fletcher's whole deal, motivation.

ronnie coleman is the most gifted athlete in the history of human civilization

he could have set the all time powerlifting record, brian dobson says this and brian knows a thing or two about powerlifting

Your first comment is sheer idiotic.

Your second, close to it. Brian, with whom I have spoken, is no expert in strength. And while I agree Ronnie was super strong and likely could have done very well as a powerlifter (even though his beginnings in the sport wasn't all that impressive), he would have struggled mightily to have been in the lower ranks of the true elites.

Just stop, dude. Seriously.

I don't see how that video is motivation to the average blob contemplating bodybuilding because the guy in the video is clearly on steroids or maybe more. If he was natural and fat, then I would say at least the wannabe permabulkers would look up to him. But he's more like an amateur bodybuilder/powerlifter hybrid (obviously not IFBB material). So I just see it as a video like Kali's crappy clips, trying to impress people by how loud they can be while they bench weights that are impossible to 9 out of 10 people viewing them.

Now, of course, a guy who is on gear and dreams of being the strongest guy in his gym - and already lifts big - then the video is a little exhilarating, sure.

Brian was definitely being dishonest when he said Ronnie showed up to his gym without having lifted a weight in the late '80s, and already had veins popping out of his thighs through his pants. That is simply wonky. I saw a pic of Ronnie taken in November of '89 and he was already juicing and had enormous arms, but in that case he was doing this stuff before he checked into Metroflex. Which isn't Brian's version or Ronnie's actually. So I would just as well ignore anything Brian has to say about his favorite gym regular, he's hardly impartial.
