I usually only drink when I'm camping. I prefer the cheap shit like Evan Williams. When mixed with a little soda it all tastes the same. When I'm backpacking and carrying the lightest load possible I go with fireball whiskey.

fireballs gotten huge in my area. i think its like a hipster LA thing, every bar I go to has some sort of fireball deal or girls carting around fireball shots.

I like it, but its full of sugar and hangs me the fuck over.

I'm a vodka connoisseur myself but it's still cool to learn about whisky :)

Alot of Johnie Walker drinkers here. Johnie is good esp the green or blue but if I am going to spend that much on a drink it's not going top be a blended scotch. I'll take a good single barrel like Macallan 12 year.

Lately I have been drinking Lagavulin 16 year. Great taste. Laphroaig 12 year is awesome too. Alot of people find it too smokey. I love it. It tastes like a campfire.

For the 200$ you will pay for the blue it is very inferior to a vast number of other 200$ bottles.

For example the same 200$ could be spent on:

Balvenie Madeira Cask 17yr - which is utterly amazing.

Glenfarclas 25 - which is on a completely different level  than the massively overhyped Johnnie.

Hell for the price of Johnnie blue you could buy the Amazing Highland Park 18 AND The Macallan 17 both of which blow the blue out of the water.

There are worse whiskeys than blue but they cost $18 a bottle lol. I think the red should be given only passive aggressively as gifts to one's enemies rofl.

Tried Jim Beam Black recently and it was not bad. Makers Mark 46 is very good for the money. I like the smooth oak taste. I don't mind  Gentleman Jack for sipping. My favorite sippin' drink these days thought oddly is Don Julio 1942 Tequila. At $100 a pop I've been trying to find a similar taste for less money but coming up short.

Agreed.

If Im mixing it with diet coke, evan williams or jim beam hits the spot.

If im drinking it over the rocks it has to be jameson or bulleit....

Im not really into the more expensive shit.

Nice thread right here and wise words above.

Johnnie Walker, totally over-rated and over-priced.
Over here (Scotland, very handy for access to whisky) ~£130(~$210) for a bottle of Johnnie Walker blue label.  For ~£35 (~$50) I can get a bottle of 12 year old Royal Lochnagar single malt, the main constituent of Johnnie Walker Blue. It's a great, smooth whisky. And of course living where I do I can accompany it with an easily available cuban cigar. Punch seem to be my go to brand at the moment, though I usually have a few Montecristos in my arsenal too.

Some nice Balvenie single malts named on here, but the pick of them for me is the Balvenie Signature 12yo single malt.
Highland Parks are nice, but there's another distillery on the same Island called Scapa. Lovely malts, the 16 year old is a candidate for the best I've tasted.

I've got 9 or 10 bottles of single malt in my collection at the moment, think I might have to top a cork and have a dram or two.

I have found Glenmorangie to my favorite.

If you haven't tried this, I highly recommend it:

The top three on my shelf at the moment...

Glendronach 15yo revival
Highland Park 12 yo
JW Blue label

I'm personally partial to the Glendronach, amazing flavor-loaded sherry bomb

How do you guys afford to buy $150 dollar bottles of booze? I buy premium once in awhile but it could never be my standard go to drink.

Although I mix it up in general I'm a rum guy. It must be my Hispanic blood. Maybe we need a premium rum thread.
