Hogan returns to WWE
« on: February 25, 2014, 08:59:42 AM »
After seeing him last night there's no way he could work a match and not make it look like garbage.

I was surprised that he didn't have a bigger role on Raw last night.

Thoughts?

hogan was and is still an icon. that being said his ring skills were always lacking. and he never really improved them from day 1 to the end of his career, witness shawn michaels overselling every move the huckster made in their classic match. i just wonder if ric flair and hiogan would be as big a star if they came along now, the modern wrestling fan has been spoiled and wants to see skillful ring performers either technical or aerial nowadays[guys like benoit, eddie guerro rey misteri, daniel bryan, cm punk etc]   course that's my opinion i could be wrong.

I think Flair is talented enough to adapt to today's style, hogan not do much.

Oh, I agree. Hogan was a spectacle because he was the right guy in the right place at the right time. Standards change with the times. Pro-wrestling is no different. Hogan will get pops today because of who he was, but that character STARTING OUT in today's climate would undoubtedly flop!

I disagree.

one thing that Hogan was always able to do was adapt and change when he needed to.

for example, look at the change from the red and yellow hero character to the evil black and white NWO villian.

not an easy thing to do given the years of Hulkamania.

and he pulled it off.

in today's climate, he wouldn't be able to do the red and yellow, but he would be able to do something that worked.

He looked and sounded rough, messed his words a couple of times, and went through the usual schtick.  Even his 'I'm glad to be home' bit sounded scripted.  If he's so happy to be back, why not let him talk as himself instead?

i was hoping they wouldnt make his return as scripted and cheesy as they did.

to me it came across as the wwe just getting an old legend to promote the network and further sales. i thought it was a bit disrespectful to him actually. he spent more time talking about the network than he did about himself and his history with wrestlemania.
just a quick 10 mins sales pitch more than anything.

hope he gets a good story over the coming weeks.

Good points, but he already has the foundation. His history factors into his acceptance of fans today. Without the privilege of being "Hulk Hogan," I honestly believe he'd have a tougher time starting out today. Even the whole "Hollywood Hogan" angle was built around his laurels from the 80's.

the days of a wrestler getting by on look alone is nearing an end, changing ones clothes isn't much of an adaptation.  look how orton and batista are getting booed, with fans chanting same old shit. same old shit. so who knows. just a couple of years ago batista was well liked and up until danial bryan so was orton.   call it the danial bryan factor.... ;D ;D ;D

You know that all of this is making Bryan feel great about himself and things in general!

What they should do is Triple H tells Bryan if you can beat me at mainia I'll put you in the main event for the title.

Insiders are predicting there's no way Hunter will put Bryan over, but that may be what they're counting on. I honestly believe HHH cares more about the business than his character's ego at this point. His ego is now centered around the good of the company.

And in just ten minutes...
-he had red and yellow shirts and bandanas in the crowd (merchandise $$$)
-he got his usual 7 minute ovation
-everyone forgot who John Cena was....
