Jay, is making the calculated and intelligent move that so many Pro's (ex-Pro's) overlook.

When you carry around 300 of muscle, or 300 lbs. of fat, you are miserable either way. Jay has no reason to carry around that kind of weight anymore.

He has already established his place in this world, and now he will retire gracefully and intelligently.

His money is invested and he is set for life.

Now, as long as he has not sustained any permanent damage to his vital organs, he should be fine, all things considered.

Too many young bodybuilders (or "wannabe" bodybuilders) think that being huge is a wonderful thing. Well, it might be if you like attention. It also might be great if you are competing... or not ~

The fact of the matter is this: Running around at 300 lbs is very uncomfortable. It is also very dangerous. Your heart is forced to grow larger. Your blood pressure rises... all kinds of nasty side-effects will occur, ESPECIALLY as you age. The age of 40 is a great place in life to tone it down. He can still look great. He can still look awesome. He just won't and does not need to be huge anymore.

It is actually more dangerous to carry around 100 lbs of unnecessary muscle than it is to carry around the equivalent in fatty tissue.

If anyone cares to respond or has made it this far, enlighten the rest of us as to "why" this is?

Bottom line: Jay is making a wise decision.

Look at how much Dorian and Ronnie have toned it down, and then look at all the guys that tried to maintain that size after the age of forty....

See anything significant that follows a trend ~

i think the main thing is that jay was sick as shit of bodybuild for a long time now and it was purely a chore for him - he said that he doesn't want a home gym because he's not gonna need it when he retires a couple of times in the past

probably hardly lifts any weights at all nowadays

wrong-comparing Robbie and jay-two totally diff bbers--jay walked around at 300 lbs in the offseason and competed at 250-260 lbs-there is zero comparison between these two-its simple why would jay walk around at over 290 lbs if he is retired-Robbie was never a  mass monster-jay is retired and 40-he will down size that's the point----

So if you weight 300 pounds in the off season that means that when you turn 40 you have to look like a pile of shit ?

You must b a teenager.

Lou Ferrigno was 275 lbs at age 25.
285 at age 36.
325 at age 43.
250 lean at 50.
245 at age 60 !!!

Jay is a multiple MrO champion and you look at him now and looks like a bellow average burnt out drug/oil abuser.

Robby didn't win the MrO but looks like a former champion even in his 60's.

a teenager lmfao--your stupid assessment on lou and jay is retarded----
lou is like 6 ft 5 inches - jay is 5 ft 9-- that's a great comparison lol
and jay competed non stop for 20 years-
and my point is dick whad why would jay need to stay 290-300 lbs when he is done with competing --and have u actually seen jay in person now-- probably not...

Dead by 50. He'll get back on the sauce in a year or two when he realizes his life and his money aren't worth a Pilot station toilet seat without being 70lbs overweight with visible definition.

Because without his freakish size he is a nobody
and when you've been at the top of your profession and recognized from 20 yards away due to your width and thickness
that's hard to let go of
don't worry, this "lean" health look won't last a year
