Side note: No player can legitimately be described as being the "best". At a certain level of virtuosity and facility, there is only different and/or favourite.

this. They simoly reach legendary/god tier status in their respective field.

I.E.
SRV, Eric Clapton = blues gods
Zakk Wylde = southern metal god
Van Halen = popish hard rock god

And so one. You have to define them into specific criteria because theyre all great in their own right, theyre just different.

Classical Spanish, maybe Andres Segovia.

Jazz, West Montgomery..George Benson and many others.

Rock, Jimmi Hendrix ...Ry Cooder

In a whole class by himself...Django Reinhardt (woody Allen like him in Sweet and Low)

Les Paul ...another guy in a class by himself. Think he's still doing limited gigs.

Dozens of unnamed recording studio players...never seem to get the break that a few others well known guitarist have over the years. Great talents, shitty luck or no luck at all.
