This.  If you are going to be consistently streaming audio or video on your phone you need to do so in wifi mode.  Doing otherwise will quickly eat up whatever data allotment you are permitted in your plan.  If you want to listen to audio in areas where you cannot connect to wifi use a portable radio/boombox.  Bah!

If all you're doing is listening to audio, Youtube is a waste of bandwidth.  Instead, look for audio streams for the content you listen to, guaranteed to use less bandwidth compared to Youtube.

For example, Coast to Coast AM has audio streams, you can even stream old shows from the archives:

Shoutcast is another good source for streaming audio, they have low bandwidth streams too, to help you save data:

Good point, and in case it's only on YT, then simply convert it to MP3s. I do this all the time with albums, lectures, audio books, etc.
