World Bodybuilding Federation (WBF) Championship - 1991
« on: March 12, 2014, 07:03:59 PM »
Since somebody started a thread about Vince Comerford, I went looking for a video on him and found the entire WBF show from '91.

This is the show in its entirety.

No problem. I bought the video for $4 two years ago on Amazon. The show was even better than I thought (and I saw the footage of the show a week after it happened on WWF Superstars).

This looks more like a 21st-century show than the IFBB shows do today. I remember picking either Eddie Robinson or Gary Strydom to win the show. I wasn't happy that Robinson placed 5th. I personally would have put him above "The Future" Jim Quinn (notwithstanding the fact that I dug Quinn's routine).

Do you have 92, where Quinn was in full bulk mode and blamed it on Anabolic Diet (Dipasquale)?

Ah yes, Lex Luger was awesome.  Steroids runing rampant in the WWF back then rumored that Vince was the kingpin dealer.  Hogan quit because he wouldn't testify against Vince

Now why would you want to see Mike Quinn?  I'm still a bit miffed that I plunked $15 to see that show on Pay-per-view.

most looked offseason,or 4/5 wks out ifbb condition if we are comparing 'peak'condition.strydom great, demay very close to best, robinson took it seriously cause he turned pro 89 and actually won 90 niagra falls show he could have been great in prime ifbb if he did it 'oh well',Christian was about 85/90 his best, dearth again was a newer pro so he was pretty good, baker actually was smaller than when he won usa's /softer.rest were off as I stated 1st line.

Vince McMahon had a hard on for big bulky men.

Here is the 1992 Championship. Since you're a glutton for punishment, Mike Quinn's routine is at 20:00.

Nothing "beach body" about these guys....well, except for Zuccolotto.

Tried to watch it but far too fruity pebbles for me.   Vince  McManmeat is a disgusting creature.

Which one?

Vince McMahon isn't in the 1991 show. He does commentary on the 1992 show.

Besides, the guys are in a lot better shape in the '91 contest.

Which is the one where Strydom comes out in a top hat and cane and the commentator just goes apeshit "Aaaaaa Back Double Biceps!" "Look at the striations!" It's hilarious

Neither.

As explained earlier, you are referring to the footage from the '91 show that was aired on BodyStars. On that clip, Vince McMahon's voice is dubbed over that of the actual commentators, Greg Lewis and Tom Platz. Plus, it's only part of Strydom's routine.

I believe the drug testing accounts for the 'beach body' look of most the guys.

That's for the '92 show, not the '91 show.

Not sure which one clicked on and the briefly watched but in it during their posing routines many of  them were behaving like pole dancers.  Gross.  I'm surprised the schmoes didn't throw dollars on the stage.

Thanks, have you EVER seen anyone compete in that condition?  I guess he was contractually bound by McMahon.

If Strydom had a good back, the 91 WBF showing would have been the greatest bodybuilding display of all time. No homo. The rest of his physique that was unmatched as far as the size, shape, condition, symmetry, etc. Yates was harder, but not as aesthetic. Ronnie's calves were pathetic and didn't have a very pleasing looking body. Strydom here was a huge Benfatto or Paris... Just with no back. It's a shame.

Actually, Johnnie Morant competed in the IFBB after turning pro in 1989. He placed 4th at the 1990 Night of Champions, behind Danny Padilla, Dorian Yates, and the late Mohammed Benaziza.
