We were messing with the Oculus Rift in SF last week and my coworker told me porn was going to be a major driver on this. I didn't think so, but here you go.....
Porn was the major driver behind the rise of most technology these days, from videotape, to DVDs and yes, even to the modern internet. I used to think that I was in the minority, when I would use a 28.8 kb/s modem and a zmodem terminal to download uuencoded, chunked files to assemble into a "JPEG", but I was not.
Turns out the rest of the world WASN'T using the Internet to write thesis papers or share cancer cures or launch nuclear missiles. Nope, they were furiously fapping to porn too.
And so the modern Internet is optimized to produce streaming video. Why is that, I wonder?
