My dogs have ripped their toenails out many times. Common thing with Greyhounds since they really dig in when they run. Greyhounds bleed more than most dogs due to the high red blood cell count and it will look like a murder scene, but its should not warrant a trip to the vet. I am a bit shocked you had to go to the vet over this one. Get some Betadine and some bandages and some Ace Bandages and you should be good to go. Toenails are no big deal. I have had to deal with many of them coming off.
I would also send you money to help if you needed it, especially for your dogs.
Thanks, man. I have all the right medical supplies but the nail was dangling and her toe was jacked up. I knew she needed to be sedated so I figured "fuck it, only the best for my bitch". lol
My wiener dog has done the same but I've been able to treat it in the past. It was just too dirty and a little too precarious to deal with at home. But trust me, after throwing down a grand less than two weeks ago I definitely tried to treat it before going to the vet. Just glad she's on the mend. She was super energetic once the sedatives wore off.
