How bad will the NY Yankees be this year?
« on: March 29, 2014, 08:11:02 AM »
Are they really starting the 2014 season with Derek Jeter as their everyday shortstop?  :-\

Figure you're trolling, but I'll answer anyway.

They will be in the mix for the division title.  Like all teams, they have question marks, but also have great upside.

AL east is a beast this year.

Pitching is a question mark and a big one...Can CC turn it around or is he done?

I say they will be better than the Red Sox but will lose in the playoffs to the Tigers, who will lose to the A's, who will beat the Giants in the world series.

lakers can and probably will make the playoffs next year.  they're tanking it right now.  they want that #1 pick, and they'll get it if they're anywhere close.

i figure them for 92-70 possible wild card every team in baseball has holes. look at dodgers with their out of control spending 30 some million for kershaw and now he's on dl.

They had the best off season in the division by far, and they needed it.

Add:
McCann
Ellsbury (injury prone)
Beltran (age 37)
Tanaka (no MLB experience, 4th starter)

Subtract:
Cano (best 2nd basemen in baseball)
Rivera (best closer ever)
Pettitte (mr. consistency)
Arod

Just how bad is the Yankees' infield gonna be? :-\

Lol, what a completely slanted view.  Have fun with that.

Add:  Best FA catcher/P/OF available.  Add: Tiexiera/Jeter and a full year of Soriano.  Add: Pineda

You mock adding Beltran for being 37, then mock they Yankees for losing a 40 and 44 year old pitcher.

They're better than last year by far.   Add in that Boston basically downgraded a few positions and the  Yankees have a good a shot as any in that division.

the Yankees won 85 games last season despite big injuries and with bums like Vernon Wells get plenty of playing time . . . so since "they're better than last year by far," how many wins do you figure the Yankees will get in 2014?

90 I'D SAY,there offense will be scoring much better with speed/power ,there team batting avg was embarrassing last yr,should be close to usual 275 to 280 and pitching wise could be real good with almost all of them 15 wins or over, bullpen and bridge to closer'robertson'could be tough, plus Robertson is his makeup closer worthy.i am a Yankees fan and last yr was tough other than 2 good months of scrubs playing/winning/Soriano was great pickup.

They outperformed their talent last year.  Put that same team on the field this year and they'd be lucky to sniff 80 games, as they got abysmal production from 1b/3b/and C.  CC Sabathia was also one of the worst SP in baseball, statistically.

So yes, they are better, but so are other teams.  I will put them with 85-95 wins, as currently constructed.  If that changes, so would the win totals.

I think Tampa Bay wins the AL East this season. Great front office and scouting but what a pathetic fan base.

I have my Orioles winning between 82-93 games. Plenty of offense, just not enough quality starting pitching.

True but great pitching trumps great hitting when it comes to wins and losses.

Good example of that is the 1996 Orioles team that set a major league record for home runs in a season only to shit the bed in the ALCS. Even their #9 hitter put up 20 Hr's that year. I think the record still stands today.
