Yes, electric cars will only be worthwhile when they develop another way to store electric power other than chemical batteries because:
  • They can't pack enough energy into a small enough, light enough package.
  • They are expensive.

You simpleton. Generating mass electricity for electric cars is more cost and waste efficient than filling an individual car with gas.   One nuclear, coal or natural gas plant generating electricity could provide for many cities worth of electricity.

Any proof for this?
Here in Europe there's a big push for "alternative energy" which is a huge monetary burden. We pay 100% eco tax per watt hour.
Funny thing is that energy shortages are prevented by importing grey energy aka "nuclear" electricity from eastern Europe.

What about the lead required to manufacture the car batteries?  Lead is nasty stuff.

I have a cousin that works at an old mine smelter in the Midwest. They now recycle old automotive batteries. It is crazy the amount of batteries they receive. Something like 30 full tractor trailer loads a day.

Power from new state of the art reactors is safe and should be considered “alternative”.

Before anyone goes on a “waste” screed, reprocessing fuel keeps the waste volumes low.

The idea is we don't use that nasty oil and hurt mother Gaia. If we buy enough priuses, the Indians and Chinese will follow our fine moral example and stop their polluting as well.

What's not commonly known is that when you pay carbon tax, the government uses that money to pay leprechauns to create plastic and other oil based products out of air and magic beans.

Batterie lasts much longer than you think
Also depends where you live, meaning, how high taxes on fuel are

Downsizing is popular now, a new turbo costs 1000 usd easily. No turbo and such in a Prius. Even with all the electronics, it's one of the most reliable cars ever made
