wobbling around holding dumbbells is bad for the back I say

i had to quit the workout, the upper back near the right scapula feals fucked

Shit, I worry about that too. I have adjustable DBs (no homo) in my gym. I just put a plyo box at the foot of my bench and put the DBs on there and add weight as necessary. That way, I just have to take one in each hand and sit on the bench.

If you have access to a foam roller (no homo), roll all the way from lower back to upper for several minutes. Hopefully, if the inflammation hasn't spread, you can realign any misalignment.

There's something to be said for doing regular farmer's walks for stability.

That said, get well soon, back tweaks are stunningly painful.

I wonder if affixing  a door or similar structure from the feet up to chest height, and only work with pecs and forget about the rest of the body, the door would keep you straight and go with you in the push-up range of motion.

now when ones back goes out this way , i feel it was gonna happen anyway no matter what you did, it had to be something or some condition built up within the body and a simple thing like you mentioned was just the little push it needed to go into injury. i feel this 'condition' before the injury is built up by bad form or just more stress than the body can handle

now the sciatic nerve thing i had where the back pain was more in my glute area that was fixable with eating plenty of carrots and tofu

Halo, start knocking the ibuprofen....

Done this a few times and getting on the ibuprofen early helps a lot.

I've tweaked many muscles doing very average things... grabbing a gallon of water out of the fridge... reaching for something on top of a bookshelf... vacuuming the carpet, etc...  My training partner pulled his hamstring putting the 120's back on the DB rack after a set of shrugs.  Another bud of mine seriously strained an erector while running, trying to catch a bus... he couldn't train for 2 weeks after that.

Shit happens.

The worst that I ever jacked up my back was swinging my son around in the pool and letting him go. He loved it.

It was worth it.

If it happened while carrying dumbbells down by your sides like a farmers walk its probably a strained trap.

Rest it up for a few days, ice it and take ibuprofen (1000-1200 mg is the anti-inflammatory dose needed). Then start doing some light upper back exercises like face pulls/band pull aparts or anything that targets that lower/mid trap region, even when it is still a bit sore.

If it is a bad strain i.e. a slight tear in the muscle belly, you need to increase blood flow to the area (hence the ice and light exercises) and work the muscle as it repairs. If you just leave a tear alone to heal on itself without activity, you could end up with some scar tissue which could be prone to reinjury in that area.

The good news it that it doesn't sound like a "back" injury (as in injury to the spine and surrounding tissues).

maybe because i trained back yesterday ???

Yeah it could be that alright, especially if your upper back is stiff from that previous session and wasn't warmed up when carrying the dumbbells.

It doesn't sound too serious though if you were standing upright when you tweaked it. Like I said, probably a muscle strain. When you hurt your back badly bending over or rotating - that's when you need to forget about training altogether for awhile.

You workout with too many machines and your back is weak cause you dont deadlift I have being walking with dumbbells all these years and never had a problem.

Yeah bro that's real hardcore lol

Just throw them back like Branch and his buddies in that one video and you'll never encounter such issues

dumb asshole

The trainer is right. If you can't handle walking with dumbbells either the dumbbells are too heavy for you, or you need to work on your overall strength by deadlifting. I have never tweaked my back walking with dumbbells and I usually pyramid up to 125's (the heaviest my gym has).

i did pulls from below the knee for 3 sets of 10 with 140kg yesterday

back felt good

not sure why this is happening

Therein lies your answer.  Your back was fatigued from your workout the day before.

i find stopping deadlifts for a while makes the back weaker and more susceptible to injury.
also being overtrained.

I agree you should deadlift at least twice every month.
