Say in real life a serial killer delivered the severed head of a cops wife to him and he shot the serial killer just like the movie, does he go down for it or is he acquitted?Watched the movie last night and was thinking about it.

The "Oh, he didn't know!" explains why Spacey became such a star back then. Very few actors can play perversity with such intensity and still create a weird feeling of empathy.
Overall, I still think this movie is a bit overrated (not a big Fincher fan anyway).

In the case of the seven killer, while killing him was understandable it wasn't the right thing. He went to his death feeling victorious, his mission complete. Not killing him and letting him rot in jail would have been torturous for him.
