Had a very nasty accident on a motorcycle many years ago that nearly cost me my life.  (hit a deer)   compound fracture right leg, with broke tib and fib on both legs, and separated shoulder.   Was minutes away from bleeding out before a passerby spotted me and my bike in the ditch unconscious.   Haven't touched a motorcycle since.

It's stories like these that make me glad that I never got the itch to want to ride motorcycles. You're so vulnerable on a bike. You can be the most disciplined, skilled driver there is but there's no accounting for the idiots that drive alongside you. Especially now with all of these fuckheads that are texting and driving and rolling into the next lane that you're driving in.

My father is 71, god bless him. Has been in a couple of accidents on a motorcycle that weren't too serious. but even to this day he continues to ride. Even owns a Hyabusa that he takes out to ride from time to time. Crazy old fucker.

I know a trauma doctor who is a contributor and see him at fund raisers frequently.  He despises all motorcycles, calls them "murdercycles".  Whenever the subject comes up, and it does a lot with him, he calls for the outlawing of motorcycles at the Federal level.

Does he want cars and trucks outlawed too? Doctor sounds like a commie?

It does in America if the other vehicle is a drunk driver

A friend in high school put his bike down in front of himself to act as a buffer for his imminent impact with a car that had pulled out in front of him from a driveway. Unfortunately, the bike came around and pushed him. Pinned under the vehicle. Dead on scene.

Saw a rice rocket versus car in FL on 95 just north of Ft Lauderdale. My estimate was the bike was doing about 130 and the cab was doing about 40. The cab didn't see the bike and swerved into his lane. When the bike hit the back of the cab, the cabs back tires came about 3 feet off the highway.

The bike was completely compressed and demolished and the dude pin wheeled down the highway at least 100 yards.

I was first on scene, so I got a couple of guys to direct traffic and another guy to call it in. I jogged down the highway with another female bystander to see what I could do to stabilize pinwheel-guy.

I've seen some shit and been around the block a few (did some time in a morgue), but I have never seen a deader dude than this guy. Both arms and legs had multiple compound fractures with the bone protruding from his leathers. His helmeted head was turned around completely on his neck.

The woman next to me identified herself as a nurse and I said, "I don't think that you really need to check for a pulse, do you?"

She looked at me and said, "Lord no."

Anyway, I got outta there fast because I needed to pick up my wife at FLL. The highway was closed southbound for 6 hours to deal with the scene.

Black dude, named Calvin Murphy removed himself from the gene pool that day.

Same here. In what capacity, if you don't mind?

this thread makes me consider not riding anymore. you can only control what you can control

esp sobering is the deer story. there's a ton of deer where I live. if I don't see them every day it's a rare occasion. in fact one ran into the side of my car this winter. I couldn't imagine one hitting me on a bike. you think they'd shy away when a vehicle approaches but the opposite happens. the become confused and panic and are unpredictable.

thanks for sharing that bro.

Seems every biker will inevitably lay the fucker down at some point. The odds are pretty fucked up. Careful out there, chaos.

a month or two back, I nearly crushed a motorcyclist.   He was coming up in a 45 mph, going at least 80.  I was legally changing lanes at 43 mph like the normal schmuck does.  He swerves (he anticipated having that slot open).

He pull up next to me, 2 lanes over at the red light, flipping the bird and yelling thru his helmet about motorcyclists rights.   125 pounds wearing the helmet, skinny little punk.  I begged him to de-bike and come on over, but he didn't... sped out and reached 100+ mph in a few seconds.

Locally, the guys riding harleys get killed time to time, by drunks late at night.  They take care of their bikes, they ride the speed limit (or a little above) and they GIVE A SHIT.

Then you have the kids, under 25, driving crotch rockets at 100 mph, screaming about their rights.  Cant stand them when they drive illegally and demand everyone respect them.
Harley fags are the drunks. Outed leatherman.

I've been playing in bars for the harley riders for almost a decade now.  yes, they drink, but it's always 1-2 beers an hour and they usually drive home perfectly.  It's the 24 year old, pepped out on adderall + vodka/red bulls, that crash their crotch rockets.  If a dude is 50 and he's been riding that bike to have a few beers 4x a week for 30 years, he's probably a safer driver than I am sober.  Something to be said for experience.  Old people do'nt drink to hangover, they don't barfight.  if you're 50 and you're not in jail or dead, you found moderation along the way.

Today I thought of this thread... when i saw this dude, probably 30, just zipping around on a shiny new bike with the wax still on it.  I knew he was going to swing in front of me without looking or signal, and sure enough, he did.  Then he almost got creamed by the guy next to him... same thing... he made sure nobody was in FRONT of him, but never looked to the side when shifting... fcking idiot.

My dad used to ride every day.  Got his helmet caught on a fallen cable/power line following a FL storm.  Nearly decapitated him.  Messed up his shoulder and back.  Landed him in the hospital for a while.  I think he got a $ settlement for that one.  Company hadn't addressed the fallen line, 2 weeks after the storm or something, dunno the details.  Was riding along and booom, whipped right off his bike.

I've ridden a few hundred thousand miles on only crotch rockets. Only went down once and alcohol played it's part.

I had a friend who lived in Arizona. He went years and years without a car, and only rode his 2 bikes. He gets married cuz she got pregnant. He was forced to buy a car. On his way home from the dealership he was killed in an accident. How ironic.

Heres my bike after a low speed crash.

2 kinds of motorcyclists - those that have crashed and those that will.

I have been riding for 30+ years, I own a Harley now a big comfy slow one.  I started on dirtbikes crashing them into trees and such in the woods, I think it prepared me well for the hazards of the road.

If you can`t handle riding on the sidewalk don`t go into the street.

I had a traumatic brain injury instead. I went into surgery, doctors had to drain the blood clot. I left the hospital 5 days after the surgery but I had to spent 3 months without leaving home. And I had a black eye that took like 5 months to heal completely. I'm lucky I can do whatever I want  :), and nobody can even tell I went through this. Yes I have a big scar in my cranium but my head is full of beautiful hair and most people won't notice.

When I had my bike accident as I mentioned above, I was riding outside a little town in Alberta, Canada called Rocky Mountain House.   Tall grass and trees/shrubs on either side of the highway. Beautiful Sunday afternoon  in the Summer. Gods Country they call it.  It happened so fast I had zero time to react.  The deer leaped out from the trees on my right, and that was it.  I T-boned the deer and off I went into the ditch along with my bike.  I was knocked out cold and bleeding profusely from a compound fraction in my leg.   Where I ended up in tall grass in the ditch, I was not visible from the highway.   What saved my life was that a passing motorist stopped to move the deer carcass off of the road, and only then did the person spot my bike in the grass in the ditch.  Then I was spotted a considerable ways away from where my bike landed. That person saved my life as I would have bled to death had I been there much longer.  That and the good fortune of having a medevac helicopter land on the highway to get me as opposed to an ambulance which would have taken much longer.  Both a lucky day, and an unlucky day for me.  This happened years ago.

A guy I know who is LE said that he was on patrol in a rural area at night where he came upon a bike lying in the road with it's lights on and it was still running. It had hit a deer and then a telephone pole. He looked for the rider and couldn't find him. He then looked up and the guy had been thrown up into the telephone wires.

Another LE had told me about coming on scene to a bike accident. He said that the bike had hit a guard rail...and apparently the rider went under it and it decapitated him. The officer went looking for the helmet. And he found it, with the head still in the helmet.

You got lucky, like I did.   I have long scars on my lower legs on either side of my calf muscles where I had a Fasciotomy, but they're only noticeable if you're up close.   The deer I hit fared much worse than I did.  From what I was told, I disemboweled the dear when my bike hit it.

I'd say that was about 80mph...cringe knowing the ping ping ping ping sound is his helmet bouncing off the pavement. I low sided at PIR doing almost 70mph and while sliding the back of my helmet made a sound like that over and over. His fault though.... too busy watching his buddy.

I use to ride a lot when I was in my early 20's.  I don't know how I didn't kill my self. People make lefts in front of bikes all the time where they wouldn't consider it if a car was coming at them. A tap of a car against another car is a dent. To a motorcycle rider it could be the loss of a leg.

12 years ago I had all my money saved up to get a Honda Interceptor. I go into the show room and the salesman comes wheeling out in a wheel chair. That and the prior motorcycle accidents I saw made me change my mind.  I bought an inground pool instead. Now I float with a beer in hand looking at the clouds go by.

Well done that man...
