I never admit to being a bodybuilder with the general public.

Too true. I like to "get exercise occasionally"

Most pro bodybuilders actually have world-class athleticism.  Phil Heath could easily be a reserve in the NBA.  A few of the 1990s pros had legit NFL talent and ran sub 4.19 times in high school.  Most had undiagnosed knee injuries and were overtaken by the love of the iron.   And of course, the pro BBing paydays make it worth it also.

LOL..  Most bodybuilding paychecks are not unlike the checks received each week by McDonalds "athletes."   ;D

I am not a bodybuilder, I "train".  ::)

When I am done with the weights, I will take up again my one true love: long distance rifle. I still dabble in it, but I want to be one of those old grey fucks at the range that spends all day pressing rounds and shooting them into a single hole at 600m.

Barrel lathe FTW!

only 600?! BAH! shouldn't even need optics for that! lol

the one thing I miss about the Midwest is heading out to the farm (or country) and going through a couple boxes of ammo.

fuck shooting paper though... I liked to take old plates and coffee mugs and $.20 cans of cola, spray'em 'safety orange' and put them on fence posts or hang'em from tree's. much more enjoyable to see a 'poof' of powdered coffeemug or spray from a soda can from 500+yards than hitting a paper target. ;D

I've completely given it away.

I do running now. Half marathons, cross country events etc.

I wish I'd given it away years ago.

With running I can still get drunk a couple days before a big event and do well. A couple days before a bodybuilding event I would be doing sodium deplete, eating the right carbs, schmoe squatting in room 7 and getting a bikini wax.

I never admit to being a bodybuilder with the general public.

Same here. But secretly and behind closed doors I live by the thong and will die by the thong. Just never in public.

I've been running way more because the wife got a crazy running stroller. Good excuse to take of my shirt and flex my shit in front on people for the ego boost and my baby loves runs.

I might take up boxing again or kick boxing if I can find a decent club. Having a half decent physique again feels great, but it's even greater now that I have actual health and fitness to go with it. Not always sweating, shitting or feeling winded.

Bodybuilding is great but it's too isolated. Working out a few times a week balls to the wall feels rewarding but you don't have to eat around the clock or drag your ass around all the time. There can be balance too.

Not too long ago I quit weights (mostly) all together and took up triathlons, did a whole season of racing (4 races) plus one 10k running race. Lost a lot of weight, but had a blast in the process, the open water swim start is awesome.

Im currently back in the BB game, trying to get big and lean again for the summer, but once August 30th hits, I might consider switching again. I feel one day I might make the switch fully and never return to the iron game.

Anyone that serious about "dem gainz" all year round or do any of you have a love for other disciplines? I know there's a few MMA fighters here like Donny "The Skull Crusher".

sadly bro i quit sports to take up lifting weights.

biggest mistake of my life.

i wish i had have stayed an athlete who added in weight lifting into my regimne instead of dumping athletics all together.

luckily ive had a re awakening as to the importance of athletics in my life and am finding an appreciable balance.

i realised that you can be a jacked dude who can cycle 100km in a day or play 5 on 5 full court run and gun all afternoon.

the ultimate human machine as it were.

The weights never leave you. It infests you. More than running, swimming, bike riding. If you quit for some time and see a dude walking by who is "built" you remember your old self. If you are watching a football game and you see a player throw up a double biceps after a play, you remember. When you walk by the weight benches at a dept store, you remember.
When you do push ups, and get that pump in your triceps and chest, you remember. When you look down at that spare tire, you remember that "6 pack". Hell, when you are changing a tire, you remember how light it used be back when you were lifting, and how it didn't take that much torque to get the wheel off.

Weight training is not so much the action, but the lifestyle and the physical growth that you can see with your own eyes. Damn near anybody can run, or ride a bike, and this is not taking away from those sports, but not too many people have the discipline to take years of developing themselves, much like a martial arts.
The true key to balance is utilizing weight training with other forms of athletics...

I love cycling, something about the fresh air and pushing your body through the element.

This guy is a power lifter and a an Ironman Triathlon racer Alex Viada.

His biggest emphasis is on recovery, you can do a two hour cycle or run, but you must take next day off for example and eat accordingly. A mistake I made when prepping for my tri's I was swimming mornings and running/cycling evenings 5 times a week, never gave my body any rest and my muscles withered away.

If he can do it, I think we can too.

the serious posters are out.

I might try and do what Alex Viada does, a combo between the two is a good way.

i only train chest biceps abs and quads nowadays, to look good in bed and in summer, probably for three hours max a week, definitely lost interest /got bored with always doing the same shit over and over again. Play pick up bball on the week ends once or twice a month.
I like the feeling of having bigger biceps and chest than other men tho, i would feel too bad to lose that. Most of the time i force myself these days, it s often a chore more than anything. Doesnt do as much good as it did initially in terms of well being.

this explains why your arms look like shit

well, unlike you, I was an athlete most my life and have injuries to show for it... including a degenerated c5, compressed c7, impingements, nerve damage, and scar tissue in each shoulder.. left is much worse, oddly enough since I'm righty and pitched for 14 years... nerve damage in chest from broken sternum and shattered clavicle. nerves that control your upper arms/upper back originate from the c5/c6 genius.

btw... they're still 18.5 cold.. just shy of 20 with a pump with a couple liters of water in me with a full day of meals, a couple doses of ghrp and 40mcg igf1 in each bicep and tricep.

you still humping the dream of 18inch arms? with zero back? judging by your pics, if your arms are 17.5inches, your forarmes must be 18inches because they're as big or bigger than your upper arms.

I regret dropping other sports at the expense of lifting weights. That whole bullshit peddled by the industry that every workout is sacred and you are a fragile petal that needs to be static to recover made me start skipping 5-a-side football games and stop doing tennis in case I got injured or because I had DOMS.

I was able to balance lifting with work, study and social life throughout university, it never occurred to me to balance lifting with other activities.

I tricked out my son's 10/22 with a decent scope and a suppressor, so he likes to shoot water filled soda cans in the backyard.

500 or 600m is a great shot with a medium round like a .308. Even at 1MOA (which is about the best I am gong to get) we are still talking about 6". I miss a lot of cans with that accuracy.
