It's not even a song contest - it's all political bullshit with certain countries deliberately voting for their geographical neighbours and down-voting those countries for whom they've got cultural and/or political differences with.

And the voting's fixed anyway - Azerbaijan were in the top 5 for about five years running (the Shawn Ray of Eurovision - bodybuilding related) but when the voting system got fixed this year, guess what? They're practically in last place.

Eurovision is tacky as it gets and is meant to be that way. Thinking it summarizes the European zeitgeist would be like saying Vegas embodies the American culture in its totality. Are there still that many fat fucks strolling down the strip by the way?

Haha, the first bit is just general knowledge and acceptance of what it's all about really.

The second bit was stolen from what they were discussing on the breakfast news earlier, but I thought it was an interesting fact to throw in there. Like Crownshep says above, it's been all they've been talking about on the news this morning. I've seen enough bearded women today to last a lifetime.
