All well and good but Dorian did not just beat him on size alone.. muscle density,condition graininess..overall quality (Ray,when compared to Yates was very week from the rear) played a part also..a fact Mr Ray seems to overlook.

Kevin Levrone should have won in 1994, not Shawn.

With Dorian & Kevin & Flex in the way, Shawn had no where to go.

Guys his height are trying to push 240 now.

Yes and no

Yes Dorian deseved to win many times, no one can argue he was one of the best, but he did show up in some Olympias with torn muscle and not 100% when others came in flawless, guess we can say the same about Ronnie winning with a wonky lat.

Exactly...of Shawn would have had to go to extremes...and from what I have read, Shawn wasn't extreme on too much, which could be the reason why he is where he is now.

Great physique, but the depth of field was just too much for him when he competed.

He lacked back detail and width when compared to others of his time.

Never wanted to play the size game either.  I think that held him back.  IMO, 10-15 more pounds would have made him much more formidable.

shawn ray didn't lack in any one bodypart.........he was fully developed in every bodypart.......he was 210 pounds of perfection.......yates was about 50 pounds heavier and that was the flavor of the month.......ray did place second to yates......it was a shame ray never won a sandow.......just my two cents.


that said....yates was truly a beast and a fine Mr Olympia!

In Muscle & Fitness, Bob Woolf said that Shawn Ray should've won the 1994 Mr. Olympia.

He wrote the report for the contest that year.

It is also important to remember that he was a good friend of Dorian's.

I always felt that way, but that statement cinched it for me. 8)

All politics , he remains one of the only guys that is very outspoken and his mouth got him in trouble. Shawn wasn't well liked at all. No surprise there

Does anyone have that Levrone and Dorian side lat shot that showed the difference in thickness that just blew Levrone away?

Pics that are rare like that are proof that unless we are in attendance, and only go by pictures, we do not have a full sense of size of these competitors....
