I recently realized it's waaay easier to get a good grip holding plates with holes in them than dumbells and bars. Got a great contraction out of it.

All of the above. Plus don't forget about plain old heavy deadlifts off the floor.

Seated shrugs , then you cant cheat by standing there jerking far too much weight and looking like a retard. Also pause at the top. Someone at a BBQ just last weekend complimented me on my traps. Well that's how I achieved them.

Why the need for trap exercises? Just deadlift and squat and they should grow just fine.

this is true. The Best Traps i have seen were on a local power lifter. even relaxed thick and showed power. OK his waistline was not great but he looked like he Deadlifted serious weight. I even heard he got kicked out a local gym for dropping weights.. ???

Seated shrugs. Higher reps seem to work best with these.
Heavy barbell shrugs.
Deadlifts.

According to Bret Contreras in T-Nation (oh brother). The single exercise that stimulates the traps more than any other is the prone trap raise: http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/inside_the_muscles_best_back_and_biceps_exercises

He's online "guru" who's never trained anyone of any significance and has never stepped on a stage. Besides Tumminello, he's has to be one of the most arrogant fucks around. He used to post on strengthcoach.com and got called out and owned by Mike Boyle big time.
