I think he'll be trained in how to break up fights, but I doubt he'd be fired for it. I worked in really poor schools, had some violent kids and did get in the middle of fights at times. 8th graders that are 16 can be dangerous. They never really gave us any training for it, aside from casual mentions in college. Most teachers just stay out of it. I usually broke it up with words. Once I had to break up a fight where a kid was just getting pummeled in the head... it was stop it or someone was gonna be really badly hurt or worse. I just pinned the kid (taller than me) to a wall til help arrived. He was charged with assault.
Most of the time, teachers just watch. And this dude, pulling a kid out like that, I think he'll be fine. Sucks how the kid landed, but the next punch could have been any second, and the other combatant may have kept coming, so the adult had to break it AND get in the middle quickly. Grabbing by the collar isn't ideal, but it's effective lol. With more help, he could have just got between and restrained hands, knees, and bites, but really, the kids are near adult size and fighting with everything they have... I think the umbrella of "having to act to prevent injury" will cover him. If you pull a kid like that for acting up in class, yes, fired. But DURING a fight, ya get leeway, IMHO.
