I plan to check out some biergartens and watch the World Cup game.

Any tips on things to do and check out while here?

I actually study in Munich for some years and could've given you a boatload of advice on which club to hit. Now sightseeing and dining is a different matter since well I'm not interested in the former and too poor for the latter. In my opinion tho focus on Sendlinger Tor, Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz up to the University and surroundings for seeing the better part of Munich and having a wide variety of (good) restaurants to choose from.

I guess all the bike riding keeps the Germans from getting obese from the food and all the beer.

Munich i don´t know but if your out with your wife you´ll be OK. They are quit respectful and won´t bother you. Nice Bars and restaurants. lots of street cafes. The Food is fatty that is true. I live near Hannover so i´m in North Germany. Hamburg is not far away neither is Berlin. i was in South Germany a few times visiting a woman enjoyed myself

They do have other food than just Schnitzel and Bratwurst...

I haven't seen much other than salty meats and sausage. However, I did have a really good baked potato dish at a small restaurant for lunch. They smother it with all kinds of toppings of your choice.

Hit the famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall today. That was pretty cool.

Yes, the people here are very friendly. Lots of respectful people. I've seen very few dirt bags. Felt very safe every where we have walked so far.

The city is very clean. I was surprised how much greenery and trees are in and around the city. I pictured it different.
