The man accused of punching and robbing a pregnant store clerk is now in jail on a bond of just over $1 million. Vincent Johnson appeared in "video court" this afternoon. He is charged with felony battery, strong-arm robbery and burglary. Officers say Johnson is the man in this surveillance video who entered the Boost Mobile store on Bayou Boulevard and hit employee Jessica Smith in the face. Johnson then ordered smith to tell him how to open the register. He emptied the cash register, stole the store's phone, and fled.
Smith is pregnant and was taken to the hospital with a broken nose. Today she appeared in court, asking the judge to keep Johnson locked up, so he couldn't hurt anyone else "I hope that somehow there is no bond. I don't feel that, I think that this is his style and that's not going to change. I do hope that Vincent will find something in his heart to make that change."
Johnson is also charged for punching and robbing another woman at the Happy Nick's store on Palafox Street last month. The bond amount is for both crimes.
