A program for my wife
« on: January 26, 2006, 09:48:33 AM »
My wife just recently gave birth to our son. She's looking to lose around 50lbs. She joined the gym with me. How many days should she work out? How long? How many calories should she take in? Thanx for the tips.

Age is 35
Weight is around 180
She's pretty small boned with wide hips
I believe she has a slow metabolism because she's not a huge eater. She would eat maybe twice a day. I got her to cut out all sweets. She is now allowed to hac=ve some junk on sundays.

She was around 155-160 before her pregnancy. She lost some weight on the Adkins. She really has no desire to do that diet again.

She walked a lot before her pregnancy. During her pregnancy, she didn't do any exercising.

She's going to the gym 4 days a week.

couple of red flags greek...we need to fix

eating...maybe twice a day? no good dude, no wonder her metabolism is so slow! she needs to eat small meals, many times a day. 4-5 meals a day balanced out. natural foods, lower carbs...no wheat, fresh steamed vegetables. (fish, chicken, beef....sweet potatoes, brown rice, spinach, broccolli..etc) the less processing, the better. if it came out of a box....it probably aint that good.

walking is ok for regular exercise...but for fat loss she is gonna need to do more intense cardio. have her doing cardio on all four of her gym days as of now. 30-40 minutes, target heart rate at probably around 150-175bpm (someone chime in if im wrong)

weight training....have her do and upper/ lower split. (monday...upper....tuesda y...lower....wednesday off....thursday   upper....friday...lower) maybe ease her into it...higher intensity, higher rep weight training with limited rest between sets (15-30 seconds max)

If she just had a baby then.............BREASTF EEDING.
Takes the fat off fast. Baby gets all the calories and you burn the fat.

Wes is Right.
I am 5' 3 1/2 and was 167 after the birth of my child------I am 115 now. Doing it just the way Wes said. You have to help her get organized with that food.  A new baby and all the work that goes with it, she finds herself without good food choices around and she will turn to fast food. Also I kept/keep almonds and peanuts (shell on) in the car for snacks --if I find myself out somewhere and hungry. She should never go more than 3 hours(at the most) without eating something.

Lots and lots of green tea too.

Good Luck!
