On Monday, the White House memo used to justify drone attacks on U.S. citizens was released, and it appears to confirm the worst suspicions of its libertarian critics. The Obama administration had sought to keep the memo secret, and now we know why: Because there are no checks and balances; there are no classified courts. Indeed, the memo reveals that the president of the United States ordered the targeting killing of U.S. citizens overseas — in violation of their constitutional right to due process — sans any type of oversight outside of the executive.

If those "US citizens" are loading up a mortar and aiming it at a US base -why is due process necessary? What you gonna do? Send them a court order?

There is a war on and British and American second/third generation immigrants are going to places like Syria to fight on the side Al Queda.

It's not as if Brad, the aspiring blonde haired, blue eyed, high school football star that blew his knee is going out to Afghanistan to a terrorist training camp now is it?

I say "fuck 'em" - if they go out there to train with terrorists, they deserve to be blown up. It's a war, not a civil disagreement.

they should just make a list of countries or regions - and if you're an american and you choose to hang out there, you suspend some of the right such as "due process" and "miles of paperwork before we can fire back at you".


For instance, if you are an American not in uniform/contractor, and you are "just chillin" in dangerous tribal regions of Afghanistan or "straight chillaxin" in the streets of Fallujah, I tend to think you're up to no good.

I mean, common sense should come in - Nobody accidentally wakes up in an Afghan terror camp.  If you are there, and especially if you're armed, you're up to no good. 


Another thing - in the early 2000s, it was libs crying about poor little confused Taliban fighter John Walker Lindh.

I see your point, but I'm not big on coming down on Obama over this.  al-Awlaki posted Jihad against the United States videos on YouTube, he counseled the Ft. Hood shooter, then he fled to Yemen and was tried for being a terrorist - and that's just what we know about him publically. 

So fuck him...I'm not gonna lose any sleep over Obama snuffing him.

Killing his son though, I think was problematic.  That's one where they are telling us that we just have to trust them on the evidence, and that I'm not comfortable with.  So, I guess it may be a double edged sword!
