I was a little sad that his death was so slow in being reported. Definitively up there with the other greats in soul music.

Yes, many of his songs had a lot of social commentary, that even fits today.

Had a great run from even his first solo record to Facts of Life. Was no Curtis Mayfield nor Sam Cooke to me but one of the all- time greats no doubt.

The man was a true musical genius.

Sad to see how under appreciated he was considering the media hype surrounding the deaths of lesser musicians of his genre like Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.

Probably the best voice in soul and R&B music but what set him apart from others in those genres was his ability as a songwriter, lyricist and composer. He was also a very capable guitarist in his own right.
