Brutal dude.. How old are you? How did this happen?
I am old by some people's standards, certainly old enough to have prostate cancer apparently. I will be 70 late this summer. Always had issues with my prostate since I was young though. That may be a good thing. The cancer was discovered early on. My doctor gave me a list of options. I opted for the prostatectomy because it was the treatment that offered the most peace of mind and the greatest chance of getting all the cancer. So far, so good. I encourage guys to get regular PSA tests when doing blood work. If you PSA starts to climb, something is usually amiss, but it doesn't necessarily mean you have cancer. It could just be an inflamed prostate (prostatitis) or some other issue.
Prostate cancer is very common. The likelihood of getting it increases as men age. It is generally a slow growing cancer. Like with all cancers, you just don't want it to metastasize because that creates complications. Many of the fellas I met in the prostate cancer support group I joined, did not have regular PSA blood work done. By the time their cancer was discovered, it had spread outside the prostate. Early detection is best.
