You are brown, as long as you don't stick out, you will be ok. Pretend you are part Spanish...since you are European you might know of some places in Spain. Just be wary of scams and your surroundings.

Was in queretaro last year.....and the city of guanajuato....everything was awesome. Just don't go to places that seem isolated.

Mexico is fine.....stay in the tourist areas by the bays, beaches and cruise ships. Cartels keep to the other side for the most part.

ALTHOUGH, you are a very nice helping of delicious dark meat so you might wanna be careful....a tender piece like you could fetch a few pesos.

Mexico is basically an enormous tourist trap, but nothing tops Jamaica.....NOTHING.

Keep your wallet or cash/cards in your front pockets and if someone wants to sell you something in an alley next to a building.....don't go.

The last time I walked across the bridge in Laredo (2009ish) I seen a military truck with about 8 soldiers on the back all holding Ak-47's and I couldn't take 5 steps without one shady drug dealer type after another trying to sell me xanax, coke and steroids.

The question was about Mexico City, not the beach cities or resorts. Mexico City is very much like New York City and Los Angeles, very rich areas, very poor areas, skyscrapers and suburbs. Mexico City and New York are pretty much the same size too. There are many places in Mexico City that would be best to avoid, but that is true for LA and NYC too. I've traveled throughout Mexico City via subway and bus, and have walked through the central city even late at night without any fear. Use common sense, don't wear overly expensive clothes, and you'll be fine.

Mexicans feel they stole there land. To top it of, Mexicans are not allowed to cross in to the US. (unless they have a visa).
What pisses them of the most is not being able to make money on there turf. It would be like Germans cant work in Bavaria unless they get a VISA. Of course the Mexicans hate Americans. But Mexicans put up a pretty good fight with the gangs and illegal workers.
