The WWE and Vince McMahon, amidst an increasingly strained economic setting, are making drastic cuts that have seen the organization, and in particular it's live shows, put at risk.

Whilst WWE CEO Vince McMahon has previously looked to counter the financial difficulties which have beset the company in recent times by offloading fringe wrestlers and promoting the WWE Network, WrestleZone revealed Friday that he has now moved on to cuts that could impact the live shows that are the very lifeblood of the organization.

Bus cancelled

The report revealed that following McMahon's implementation of a $20 million budget cut, the WWE production crew has been hugely impacted.

With such a busy schedule of live shows ranging from Raw and Smackdown to pay-per-view events, those charged with setting up and dismantling the set once the likes of John Cena and Roman Reigns are long gone are the WWE crew.

The behind the scenes work is not usually complete until around 1am, and with shows often lined up for the very next day in cities and towns hundreds of miles away, the WWE had previously given crew access to a bus so as to allow them to get much needed rest ahead of another busy day.

That, it has been revealed, is no longer the case.

As reported by Justin LaBar, the crew are now being forced to drive themselves to the different show locations. This is a problem on two counts. Firstly they can no longer get as muchrest and thus will be working on less sleep and therefore could be likely to make what could prove to be fatal errors in judgement when setting up as a result.

Secondly, it is clear from sources close to the situation that the crew are becoming increasingly fed up with the situation that is leaving many exhausted.

Trouble brewing

As is now common knowledge, the WWE are desperately trying to find a solution to their money worries.

With a projected loss of $50-$60 million by year's end McMahon has risked the wrath of the WWE employees with his recent moves. As well as upsetting the integral crew of whom many are said to be reaady to seek employment elsewhere should a solution not be found, there are suggestions that some of the WWE superstars are frustrated with royalties being held back in recent weeks.

All in all it is clear Vince McMahon is stuck in a catch 22 situation. The more he tries to stop the rot, the more he seems to put the WWE on the brink of crisis.

The WWE reportedly mailed out quarterly royalty checks to its Superstars and it only made matters worse. According to the report, talent that usually makes $70,000 for the first quarter video game royalties received just $11,700 for the first quarter of this year.

When royalty checks were handed out for the second quarter, many of the talents believed that the difference from the first royalty checks would be made up, but that was not the case. Most of the top Superstars in the company received $1,555 in the latest checks.

The company has taken some financial hits in the last few months as the WWE Network has underwhelming subscriptions, the WWE signed a lackluster television deal with NBC Universal and the company stock has taken a hit.

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley recently said in a Facebook post that he was underwhelmed with the video game checks and even said he wasn't going to sign his legends contract with the WWE because the money was so little.

The WWE has been making many budget cuts as of late and recently released 10 Superstars, a writer, a referee and an announcer as part of those cuts, and more cost slashing could be coming. The company has also scaled back on pyro and its ring crew.

It is said that CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon has ordered that more cuts come and that could very well lead to more talent being let go.

Too bad. However, these high-rolling corporate types always come to that point where the gravy train begins to screech to a halt. Push and push for more and more ... It can't be an endless climb to every-greater riches.

Vince will slash and burn left and right before he even CONTEMPLATES altering his lavish existence.

The entire scene is one of outlandish greed.

I love pro wrestling (but don't really care much for the current era), but what McMahon is doing will only result in more company woe.

I think it's run it's course for continued growth. Young kids who started watching wrestling when they were too young to know it wasn't real don't really exist anymore because of the internet. The internet pulls the curtain on many shams. If only there would be a bigger push to "pull the curtain" on the supplement industry...So the only people who are watching wrestling are those who've liked it for years. McMahon should dump it all now. Although his ego won't allow him to do so...

It's a business of peaks and valleys...when things were tight in the 90's, the company was so broke they took out the water coolers at he corporate HQ.   They're rolling the dice on the OTT network...like they rolled the dice on the first WrestleMania...because it's pretty much the only move they have to realize any growth.  The monthly PPV model isn't workable.   So, they'll make the cuts they have to and hope they can survive the transition from the dying PPV model to the more stable OTT model.

Actually...there's been some talk lately that the network makes them an attractive take over target because over the top networks are viewed as being a hot concept.

standard business practice.

you make money by 1 of 2 ways...

you either 1- make more money. i.e. people give you money for your product/service

or 2- reduce your spending

... if the employees don't like it, they can work elsewhere.

lay off everybody except Ziggler, Reigns, Cesaro, Rollins, Zeb, Heyman, and Bork Laser. and paige.

then sue Miz and Albert of the River, because they're boring as hell, for steroid use and make some money back.

stop lighting the whole arena red/blue, no more fireworks cept less goldberd comes back.

sue vince russo for crimes against pro wrestling for more money

don't use 20 camera men and change camera angles at every impact to hide botches

pawn the title belts

make WCW/ECW/cool/retro Tshirts and charge out the ass for them. Im happy getting my nWo shirts for $20 but honestly I woulda paid much more if they asked

bring back Benoit merchandise and sell Wrestlmania XX DVDs

No more security, let the wrestlers fight rowdy fans for real like in the olden days.

cover the mat with SlimJim and 10-10-321 ads. Use Surge soda coolers as weapons

Get money from Pepsi because CM Punk promoted them.

Release the Nitro tapes on the network. Get rid of everything on the network except the Nitro tapes.

Borrow money from Shane

Hire Jim Cornette.

This. Especially the part about the ridiculous amount of cameras and redundant shots they use. Go back to basics, they are spending boatloads more than they used to just on producing a single weekly Raw event.

sue people?

that's very "liberal" of you. sounds like you'd want Rev. Al Sharpton to run the WWE.

and 'sue miz for steroid use'?

I can't tell if you're serious and incredibly ignorant, naïve, and very young... or if you're just bullshitting.

... either way, what grown man watches or follows professional wrestling?

Haven't watched wrestling since wcw ended. Was thinking recently how vince never capitalised on his purchase of the company, wwe basically went to shit with no competition.  he could still be making good money from the brand if he was clever about it.

"Increasingly strained economic setting"? Yeah, just like the way Vince was facing dire financial times when Turner started overtaking him in ratings.

Even with his stock loss a few months back, he still has money falling out of his ass. I doubt he'll let the company die before doing some co-production himself.

Same here, WCW was neat, had a lot of talent and more of a story behind what was all going on.

WCW was...with the exception of the period of 1996-1998, a clusterfuck.  Jim Cornette is a dick...he wants to run the show but the only time he had complete control of a company it went belly up.  Sure, he has a nice grasp of the traditional southern "wrasslin' bidness", but that's about it.

They have something with the Wyatts, Cesaro, Cody Rhodes,  Reigns, Ambrose and Rollins...hopefully, they won't fuck it up with them like they did with Ziggler and Johnny "Fandango" Curtis.   If they can get Daniel Bryan back healthy, they have a number fo directions they could go in
